Job summary

Leidos is seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer to design electrical distribution systems for utility clients. You will develop design packages for overhead and underground networks, perform calculations, and support construction with field data collection.

The position offers remote-working capabilities with a preference for candidates near Walled Lake, MI to support local projects; travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial engineering with 0+ years of experience.
  • Experience with NESC Standards, ESRI, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, GIS a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Willingness to travel; valid U.S. driver’s license; may travel for customer sites.
  • Willingness to perform field and office work; outdoor work; customer-site visits.

Responsibilities

  • Independently develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems for Leidos electric utility customers.
  • Review work provided by Client and assess requirements of scopes.
  • Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design.
  • Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements, assess and develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, work permit development, easements, and ROW applications.

Location

This position has remote-working capabilities but the preference is for candidates to be located within a commutable distance of Walled Lake, MI to support local utility clients as business needs require.

Responsibilities

What Sets You Apart (Background Requirements)
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial preferred) with 0+ years of experience.
  • Experience with NESC Standards, ESRI, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, and GIS a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to utilize a personal vehicle, as some customer-related travel could be anticipated (Job-related travel will be reimbursed at IRS-approved rates).
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work; Ability to work in outdoor environments on occasion; The role may require customer-site visits to collect field data that will assist in developing work packages.
  • Candidates should possess valid U.S. driver's license, as some local or regional travel is expected.

Pay Range

Pay Range $50,700.00 - $91,650.00
