Job summary

Leidos in Pittsburgh, PA is seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer/Designer to design and support electrical distribution systems for utility clients. You will work both in the office and in the field, developing work packages, performing structural and electrical calculations, and coordinating with utilities.

The role offers remote-capabilities, with preference for candidates near Pittsburgh to support local clients.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree with 0+ years of experience.
  • Experience with NESC Standards, ESRI, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, and GIS a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to utilize a personal vehicle; some travel anticipated (reimbursed).
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work; ability to work outdoors; customer-site visits may be required.
  • Candidates should possess a valid U.S. drivericense; some local/regional travel expected.

Responsibilities

  • Independently develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems for Leidos electric utility customers.
  • Review work provided by Client and assess requirements of scopes.
  • Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, sag/tension for spans, and voltage drop/flicker calculations.
  • Provide engineering support during construction; post-construction reviews to ensure standards.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design.
  • Coordinate conflicting utilities and prepare large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments; work permits, easements, ROW applications.

Leidos is seeking Associate Distribution Engineers who are passionate about electric utility design engineering. We’re looking for someone who is dedicated to ensuring that every project, no matter how simple or complex, is of exceptional quality. You'll be working directly with clients to make sure that Leidos' reputation for high-quality work is always maintained. If you join us in this role, you'll gain expertise in a variety of areas, including NESC, Structural Pole Modeling, Electrical Power Calculations, GIS design training, Field Data Collection, and Client Design Standards. Location

This position has remote-working capabilities but the preference is for candidates to be located within a commutable distance of Pittsburgh, PA metropolitan area (Western Pennsylvania) to support local utility clients as business needs require.

As an Associate Distribution Engineer / Designer, you can expect to:
  • Independently develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems for Leidos electric utility customers
  • Review work provided by Client and assess requirements of scopes.
  • Perform engineering calculations such as: structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design
  • Gain experience in coordinating conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements, assessing and developing large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, work permit development, easements, and ROW applications
What Sets You Apart (Background Requirements)
  • Bachelor's Degree (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial preferred) with 0+ years of experience.
  • Experience with NESC Standards, ESRI, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, and GIS a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to utilize a personal vehicle, as some customer-related travel could be anticipated (Job-related travel will be reimbursed at IRS-approved rates)
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work; Ability to work in outdoor environments on occasion; The role may require customer-site visits to collect field data that will assist in developing work packages
  • Candidates should possess valid U.S. driver's license, as some local or regional travel is expected

Pay Range

Pay Range $50,700.00 - $91,650.00
