Job summary

E2 Consulting Engineers, LP is seeking a Distribution Engineer to support a major Hawaii utility client. You will analyze overhead distribution systems and perform design work using O-Calc, SPIDA-Calc, and related tools while reporting to the Distribution Supervising Engineer.

The role emphasizes field evaluation, BOM verification, and coordination with clients and project teams. 1–3 years of experience and a BS in Electrical Engineering are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET approved college or university.
• 0-3 years of experience in distribution design or similar with utility or consulting firm.
• Experience reading pole loading sheets and inputting information to O-Calc.
• Proficient using Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed design and engineering calculations of overhead and/or underground distribution systems to comply with client standards and industry guidelines (GO95, GO128, NESC, RUS).
• Conduct field evaluation of proposed installation sites as required.
• Verify Bills of Materials meet design and client needs.
• Design distribution projects with neatness and small margin for error using PLS-CADD, O-Calc, SPIDA-Calc, or Pole Foreman.
• Perform engineering calculations such as voltage drop and pulling tension.
• Hold electrical design review meetings and document minutes.
• Coordinate with project management and designers during design phases.
• Communicate and coordinate project activities with supervising engineer, client, and stakeholders.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Overview

E2 is looking for a Distribution Engineers to join our team to support our main electric utility client Hawaii. The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing overhead electrical distribution systems with the use of O-Calc software. Projects include Pole Replacements, Conductor Replacements, True Up Modifications, equipment upgrades, and Overhead-to-Underground conversions. The position will work under the direction of the senior engineer and will report directly to the Distribution Supervising Engineer or Engineering Manager.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed design and engineering calculations of overhead and/or underground electric distribution systems to comply with the client’s standards, specifications, preferences, and relevant industry standards (GO95, GO128, NESC, RUS etc.)
• Perform field evaluation of proposed installation sites as required.
• Verify Bill of Materials meets the requirements of the design and client needs.
• Design distribution projects with neatness and a small margin for error utilizing PLS-CADD, O-Calc, SPIDA-Calc, or Pole Foreman software.
• Perform engineering calculations such as voltage drop/flicker and pulling tension calculations.

Preferred

• Experience with distribution design and construction standards for Hawaiian Electric.
• 2+ years of experience with O-Calc Software
• 2+ years of experience with MicroStation
• 2+ years of experience with material ordering using SAP
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
