Job summary

Johnson & Johnson is seeking an Associate Director, Strategy and Operations in Spring House, PA. The role leads functional strategy, operations, and budget management for the Discovery Technologies and Molecular Pharmacology (DTMP) organization.

You will partner closely with DTMP leaders to translate scientific strategy into executable plans, drive efficiency, and manage external partnerships while supporting financial planning and talent processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred in biology, protein sciences, or chemistry.
  • 10+ years of experience in laboratory sciences and operations in pharma R&D.
  • Experience with external partnerships and matrixed organizations.
  • Ability to present to stakeholders and communicate with diverse teams.
  • Willingness to travel 10-30% domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

  • Provide functional leadership and operational support to ensure successful execution of initiatives for DTMP.
  • Partner with the DTMP leadership to understand Therapeutics Discovery strategy and drive improvements.
  • Drive strategic and process operational improvement initiatives for DTMP.
  • Contribute DTMP inputs to therapeutic discovery financial planning and forecasting cycles.
  • Support LT/ELT meeting facilitation and communications.

We are searching for the best talent for Associate Director, Strategy and Operations in Spring House, PA.

Purpose: The Associate Director, Strategy and Operations, will play a critical role in functional leadership and operational support to ensure the successful execution of initiatives that enhance efficiency and drive scientific innovation of the Discovery Technologies and Molecular Pharmacology (DTMP) Organization. This individual will partner closely with the Director of Strategy & Operations to understand Therapeutics Discovery scientific strategy and drive continuous improvements and change management within DTMP.

You will be responsible for
  • Strong working knowledge of R&D overall processes and laboratory work
  • Working knowledge of how a new molecular entity is created with emphasis on science needed
  • Manage Functional Resources to Target (Operational Costs, Capex, Headcount)
  • Optimize functional efficiencies across CROs, contractors, and lab supplies through contracting oversight & procurement partnership
  • Manage DTMP partnerships and collaborations in conjunction with Alliance Management
  • Drive strategic and process operational improvement initiatives on behalf of DTMP
  • Contribute DTMP inputs to Therapeutics Discovery financial planning and forecasting cycles
  • Functional Leadership support including LT/ELT Meeting Facilitation & Communications
  • Support 2026 Functional G&O development and progress tracking
  • Maintain Functional 3 year Strategies
  • Support Functional Recruitment & Onboarding
  • Support DTMP LT with talent processes (advancements, talent talks, year-end performance)

Qualifications / Requirements
  • Education: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s Degree is preferred in a scientific degree such as biology, protein sciences, or chemistry or equivalent masters.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in both laboratory sciences and operations in pharma R&D
  • Knowledge of Discovery sciences and business
  • Scientific background in protein science, biology or chemistry preferred
  • Strong organizational skills related to data management
  • Demonstrated success at developing highly collaborative and effective relationships in complex, highly matrixed organization
  • Ability to present and communicate to stakeholders
  • Individual must have demonstrated experience and success with external partnerships
  • This candidate would have change management experience
  • Experience in assessing technology, external environment & R&D process requirements to successfully drive operational productivity, strategy optimization, process improvements and efficiencies
  • This person will have experience with Program, Project and Financial Management
  • Ability to translate data into information and strategies into executable action plans
  • This role requires 10-30% domestic and international travel as needed.
