Job description

The Associate Director of Development is a frontline fundraiser responsible for the qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift prospects. The Associate Director will identify, engage, and solicit donors at all life stages, including prospect research, development of effective solicitation strategies and stewardship of donors throughout the major giving process. The Associate Director will typically maintain a donor portfolio with a focus on gifts of $50,000 or above. The Associate Director may require frequent travel and meetings on and off campus during regular and non-traditional business hours and is expected to operate with high levels of autonomy.

The Associate Director of Development of the Johns Hopkins Heart and Vascular Institute serves as one of two front-line fundraisers and works side-by-side with the Director of Development in the management of private sector fundraising. Their portfolio includes faculty from both divisions who specialize in a wide range of cardiovascular specialties. The role is focused on cultivating mid-level and major gift prospects; upgrading high-end annual donors; identifying new donors through patient education events, crowdfunding campaigns, and large-scale prospecting and solicitation collaborations with the Office of Medical Annual Giving.

This position offers a unique opportunity to gain broad exposure to two unique but interrelated areas of academic medicine. The associate director will be an integral member of a team of three, responsible for raising an average of $7.5 million per year in private support. The Johns Hopkins Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI) consists of the Division of Cardiology in the Department of Medicine and the Division of Cardiac Surgery in the Department of Surgery. The HVI is led by clinical and surgical co-directors who work together to ensure a seamless approach to all adult cardiovascular patient care, research, and teaching. The HVI development office supports fundraising activities for both divisions.

Learn and actively refresh knowledge of school/divisional/departmental collaborative partnerships, priorities, and shared goals.
