Job summary

RBC is seeking a senior risk professional in New York to provide risk oversight for Leveraged Finance and HY activities within Global Investment Banking. You will manage risk reporting, build infrastructure, and analyze trading strategies to align with RBC risk tolerance.

Responsibilities include reviewing transactions, coordinating with regulators and tech teams, and collaborating with Trading/IB for risk issue resolution. Strong communication and quantitative skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or master’s degree in finance, economics, mathematics, or other quantitative discipline.
  • 5+ years experience in risk management, trading, finance, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of financial markets that demonstrates an interest in the subject matter.
  • Must be self-motivated, highly curious and inquisitive, and capable of working with minimal direction.
  • Very strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle a significant and diverse workload, in a dynamic fast paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize projects and workload.

  • Provide risk oversight for leveraged loans and high yield corporates within Global Investment Banking’s Leveraged Finance.
  • Manage market risk reporting process and ensure accuracy of key risk measurements.
  • Develop risk infrastructure and day-to-day risk management processes.
  • Analyze trading strategies and products to align with risk tolerance and objectives.
  • Review significant transactions to support the Business and GRM approvals with proper controls.
  • Collaborate with regulatory and technology groups to meet regulatory requirements (FRTB, Volcker, CCAR).
  • Work with Trading and Investment Banking to ensure cohesion on risk issues: systems, limits, risk management.

The Group Risk Management (GRM) Market Risk group provides independent and effective monitoring, control, and communications on the nature and extent of all material market risk and ensures the implementation and compliance with risk management policies and procedures.

The Group Risk Management (GRM) Market Risk group provides independent and effective monitoring, control, and communications on the nature and extent of all material market risk and ensures the implementation and compliance with risk management policies and procedures.

The new hire will join as a member of the GRM team that is responsible for the market risk oversight of RBC’s Leveraged Finance and Alternative Finance businesses in New York with primary responsibilities and other key aspects of the job defined in the following sections.

Coverage to include leveraged loan and high yield underwriting.

What will you do?
Risk Oversight and Analytics
  • Help provide risk oversight for leveraged loans and HY corporates within Global Investment Banking’s Leveraged Finance businesses.
  • Aid in the management of the market risk reporting process and ensure the accuracy of key risk measurements.
  • Develop the risk infrastructure and processes used managing risk on a day-to-day basis.
  • Analyze key trading strategies and products to ensure they are in line with RBC’s risk tolerance and objectives.
  • Review significant transactions to support the Business, and senior GRM approvals, ensuring proper risk controls.
  • Collaborate with various regulatory and technology groups to help RBC meet its strategic infrastructure goals and comply with key regulatory requirements including FRTB, Volcker, and CCAR.
  • Work with Trading and Investment Banking to ensure a close cohesion on key risk issues: systems, limits, risk management
Risk Management
  • Investigate risks to provide value-added insight and analysis to senior management on risk trends and concerns.
  • Play a lead role in enhancing GRM on desk risk systems
Analytics
  • Data analysis of large quantities of data, including ability to draw conclusions from the data.
What do you need to succeed?
Basic Qualifications
  • Undergraduate or master’s degree in finance, economics, mathematics, or other quantitative discipline.

Other Required Qualifications
  • Previous experience in corporate credit, structured credit, or leveraged finance is a plus.
  • Analytical approach to problem solving, and willing to challenge the status quo.
  • Ideally, candidate has strong technical skills, including exposure to Python, VBA, SQL, or Tableau.

The good-faith expected salary range for the above position is $110,000-$190,000 depending on factors including but not limited to the candidate’s experience, skills, registration status; market conditions; and business needs. This salary range does not include other elements of total compensation, including a discretionary bonus and benefits such as a 401(k) program with company-matching contributions; health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance; and paid time-off plan.
