Responsibilities

  • Oversees, develops and manages honors programming and services to advance interdisciplinary education and enrichment experiences.
  • Works with college leadership and others on college-wide and program-level planning, development, assessment, evaluation, and reports in support of Honors College goals and objectives.
  • Incorporates student learning outcomes in development and assessment of honors student education, student activities and community engagement.
  • Teaches courses in the UAB Honors College pertaining to interdisciplinary education, special honors seminars, and student projects.
  • Serves as course master and instructor for the team-taught interdisciplinary seminars in its University Honors Program (UHP).
  • Develops students' written and oral communication skills.
  • Develops and oversees co-curricular and extra-curricular programming and experiential learning that facilitates interdisciplinary learning within the UAB Honors College and its University Honors Program.
  • Works with others to oversee and promote student engagement in the journal publication process that fosters undergraduate scholarly activity.
  • Responsible for administration and leadership in support of interdisciplinary education and the college's University Honors Program.
  • Manages student theses, capstone projects, and special projects.
  • Assists in recruitment, selection, orientation and advising of students in UHP and the college.
  • Displays strong event management skills, including the ability to organize events and programming, work within a budget, facilitate contract submission, and secure event and budget approvals.
  • Facilitates a supportive and engaged learning community among UHP students and throughout the UAB Honors College.

Overview

To oversee and manage Honors programming and services, focusing on interdisciplinary education and enrichment experiences for students. To conduct assessments and evaluations to support Honors College goals, to integrate student learning outcomes into education and engagement initiatives. To teach courses, support curriculum development and delivery, develop experiential learning opportunities, and handle administrative processes such as recruitment and selection of students, and managing theses, capstone projects, and other experiential learning. To collaborate with campus and community partners for interdisciplinary education and student engagement activities. To organize events, manage budgets, and facilitate necessary approvals.

Position may require occasional weekends/evenings.

Salary Range: $60,835 - $98,855

Qualifications

PhD in English or PhD or MFA in a closely related field and five (5) years of related experience in a teaching or academic setting required. Familiarity with honors education is desirable. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
