Job description

At Bristol Myers Squibb, our employees often ask, “Who are you working for?”—a question that fuels collaboration, accountability, and urgency in our work. Our purpose-driven culture inspires us to discover, develop, and deliver innovative medicines to prevail over serious diseases. We offer uniquely interesting and meaningful work, opportunities for growth, and a supportive environment that values inclusion, wellbeing, flexibility, and comprehensive benefits. This is work that transforms the lives of patients, and the careers of those who do it. The Associate Director, Global Policy Strategy Execution will help shape and execute BMS’ global policy agenda by developing clear policy strategies, evidence-based positions, advocacy tools, and thought leadership content that support business priorities and strengthen BMS’ credibility with external stakeholders.

The role will operate across Global Policy and Government Affairs and the wider cross‑functional matrix, working closely with regional and market teams, functional experts, research colleagues, communications, legal, and senior leaders to ensure policy priorities are well defined, well supported, and effectively implemented.

Key responsibilities

Global policy strategy and execution: Lead the development, coordination and execution of global policy strategies that advance BMS priorities, including policies that reward innovation, support patient access, and strengthen pro‑growth investment environments. Translate complex policy, business, and external environment issues into clear priorities, recommendations, and advocacy approaches for use at global, regional, and market levels. Work across Global Policy and Government Affairs and the cross‑functional matrix to ensure alignment on policy priorities, advocacy resources, and execution plans.

Policy development, evidence, and advocacy tools: Develop policy proposals, positions, narratives, and toolkits, in close collaboration with functional experts, that equip BMS teams to engage effectively with policymakers, other external stakeholders, and policy influencers. Partner within Global Policy and Government Affairs to define evidence generation priorities, identify research needs, and determine the most effective approaches for credible policy research. Build partnerships with academic institutions, think tanks, and other external experts to support independent research, generate new policy ideas, and strengthen BMS’ external thought leadership.

Thought leadership and online policy platform: Define the editorial and policy strategy for BMS’ online policy platform, ensuring it presents credible, timely, and policy‑relevant content that advances BMS’ policy priorities and external reputation. Lead the development of content that showcases BMS’ policy ideas, evidence, patient‑and innovation‑focused perspectives, and practical advocacy tools. Coordinate internal review, governance, and content planning processes so the platform remains high quality, current, and aligned with BMS standards and priorities.

Facilitation of external policy executive advice for BMS leaders: Support the work of the Global Policy Strategy & Impact team to help BMS senior leaders access strategic insight and external advice on the policy and business environment. Provide strategic input into the framing of executive advisory meetings, develop high‑quality briefing materials, and guide follow‑up to ensure insights are translated into meaningful action.

External engagement and partnership building: Engage external stakeholders in relevant global forums to advance BMS’ global policy agenda, complementing regional and market‑level advocacy. Support the Senior Director, Global Policy Strategy Execution, Trade & IP Policy Lead in developing and maintaining relationships with selected multilateral organizations, trade associations, think tanks, academic experts, and policy forums where engagement can advance BMS priorities. Represent BMS policy priorities with clarity, judgement, and credibility, while ensuring external engagement is coordinated with relevant internal stakeholders.
