Job summary

Emory Healthcare in Atlanta seeks a facilities/engineering leader to direct day-to-day operations of Engineering Services, overseeing mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, medical gas and building systems.

You will supervise staff, manage energy programs, ensure regulatory compliance, and coordinate contractors, driving cost-effective, safe, and reliable facilities for patient care.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field required or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years in facilities or engineering management; or 8 years in facilities/property management.
  • Previous supervisory responsibility required.

Responsibilities

  • Directs day-to-day operations of Engineering Services and building systems (mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, medical gas).
  • Oversees energy management and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Supervises staff responsible for system maintenance and operations.
  • Ensures department compliance with regulations and safety standards.
  • Participates in developing departmental goals and action plans.
  • Coordinates work with contractors and in-house projects for all systems.
  • Manages budgets and reporting for management and regulatory agencies.
  • Monitors workflow to maintain efficiency and high service levels.

Responsibilities


  • Directs the day-to-day operations of Engineering Services by overseeing the mechanical, electrical, heating and cooling, plumbing, fire protection, medical gas, and building systems.

  • Oversees energy management and preventive maintenance programs.

  • Supervises staff responsible for system maintenance and operations.

  • Ensures department compliance with regulations.

  • Participates in developing departmental goals and objectives.

  • Meets with other staff members to discuss progress and to develop future courses of action.

  • Supervises staff and manages employee performance.

  • Provides ongoing performance feedback, addresses problems, orients and trains employees, documents and verifies competency and identifies and suggests ways to develop skills.

  • Monitors workflow to maintain efficiency and high level of customer service.

  • Manages the mechanical, heating and cooling, plumbing, electrical, fire protection, medical gas, and building systems.

  • Coordinates work of contractors and in-house projects for all systems.

  • Assists in the direction and implementation of energy conservation and management programs; ensures identified projects are most cost effective and communicates goals and results to the organization.

  • Directs the preventive maintenance program for the equipment and utility systems to ensure compliance with regulations.

  • Coordinates program of equipment testing.

  • Monitors outside service and repair contracts on plant equipment and utility systems by overseeing work to ensure satisfaction and timely completion of assigned work.

  • Plans, administers, and monitors the department's capital equipment, operations, and personnel budgets by reviewing prior budget expenses, regularly reviewing year to date expenses, investigating variances, and tacking corrective action.

  • Coordinates the preparation of purchase requisitions for parts and equipment and establishes inventory control levels.

  • Collects, organizes, and analyzes data and generates and provides accurate and complete reports for management and/or regulatory agencies.

  • Interprets applicable regulations and establishes filing and auditing procedures to ensure records and files are accurate and in compliance.

  • Takes the necessary precautions, in keeping with OSHA standards and other applicable federal, state, and municipal regulations, when working with hazardous chemicals and materials and power equipment.

  • Uses personal protective equipment as required.

  • Performs other related duties as required.



Minimum Qualifications


  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field and three (3) years experience in Facilities or Engineering Management OR eight (8) years of experience in Facilities or Property Management.

  • Previous supervisory responsibility required.

  • Based on established hospital/department/unit standards, employees may not perform all duties listed in this job description.
