Job Description

Associate Director – Infection Prevention & Control (IPC)

The Associate Director demonstrates IPC knowledge and expertise. They manage the IPC department, providing guidance, direction, and oversight of all team activities. They facilitate achievement and sustainment of IPC targets, mentor infection preventionists (IPs), and serve as a resource to senior leadership, Medical Staff, Nursing, and other Hospital and Health System personnel. They collaborate to address gaps and opportunities, assisting with the development of interventions to achieve IPC department and organizational goals.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Responsible for all hospital epidemiology department operations, including the achievement of goals and objectives.
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of short‑ and long‑range goals and objectives for the department that are realistic, objectively measurable, and aligned with the hospital's institutional plan.
  • Oversee programs to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of department operations.
  • Initiate changes in systems, programs, and daily operations to advance the epidemiology program; monitor effectiveness and report on department activities.
  • Supervise facilitation and coordination of ongoing processes to address medical‑center clinical performance improvement goals related to nosocomial infections, including committees such as the Infection Control Committee and Quality Improvement Committee.
  • Establish and maintain systems ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards; serve as a resource for Joint Commission, CA Medical Association, Title 22 regulations, and related requirements.
  • Lead the implementation of an IPC team of dedicated stewards and accountable individuals to drive meaningful change in infection prevention practice.
  • Develop, maintain, and implement current department policy and procedure manual.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Public Health, Epidemiology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or related field required. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Work Experience: Five years in epidemiology/infection control required; three years in epidemiology/infection prevention management in a healthcare setting required.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Current California RN state license required (preferred upon hire); Certified Infection Control (CIC) required upon hire.
