Job summary

University of Maryland, College Park is seeking an Associate Director of Development to cultivate and solicit individual donors for the Division of Student Affairs. This role reports to the Director of Development and will coordinate with campus colleagues to advance the university’s priorities.

The incumbent will manage a portfolio of major‑gift prospects, develop strategies, and represent DSA at events while providing portfolio reporting and staying current on programs and priorities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional development, fundraising, or external relations experience.
  • Development experience within a university setting preferred.
  • Experience in volunteer management and proposal writing desired.
  • Strong problem‑solving, strategic planning, oral and written communication, and Microsoft Office/Google Suite skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 80 major‑gift prospects, with a focus on discovering, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, closing, and stewarding major gifts ranging from $50,000 to $1M+.
  • Develop and implement major‑gift strategies in consultation with the Director of Development and other DSA and University Relations colleagues.
  • Represent DSA at internal and external events, including engagement with the Assistant Vice President for Engagement within DSA.
  • Provide regular reporting and analysis of portfolio progress to the Division leadership.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of the Division and University programs, priorities, and strategic plans.

Job Summary

Division of Student Affairs (DSA) at the University of Maryland seeks an Associate Director of Development to cultivate and solicit individual donors for DSA initiatives and priorities. Reporting to the Division’s Director of Development, the incumbent will apply knowledge of the University of Maryland and DSA’s programs, needs, and priorities to the development process, represent the Division to internal and external audiences, and work with members of the university community to advance its mission.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 80 major‑gift prospects, with a focus on discovering, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, closing, and stewarding major gifts ranging from $50,000 to $1M+.
  • Develop and implement major‑gift strategies in consultation with the Director of Development and other DSA and University Relations colleagues.
  • Represent DSA at internal and external events, including engagement with the Assistant Vice President for Engagement within DSA.
  • Provide regular reporting and analysis of portfolio progress to the Division leadership.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of the Division and University programs, priorities, and strategic plans.

Travel & Working Conditions

Travel up to 50% of the time. Occasional work on evenings and weekends may be required. Must be able to walk to departments on campus.
