Job summary

American Oncology Network, Inc. seeks an Associate Director of Contracting to lead payer contracting activities across its national practice network.

This remote role focuses on day-to-day execution, team leadership, and accurate documentation across all markets. You will partner with senior leadership to translate contracting strategy into reliable operational plans, oversee end-to-end workflows, and drive improvements in efficiency and consistency across practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of payer contracting or managed care experience.
  • Experience in oncology or specialty medical contracting (preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with Evisort, Turquoise Health, and Provider Passport (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Lead direct supervision and mentorship to Contract Managers across multiple markets.
  • Own end-to-end contracting workflows, pipelines, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Oversee documentation standards, version control, and quality review processes.
  • Coordinate with Credentialing, Revenue Cycle, Operations and other stakeholders to ensure alignment.
  • Identify process gaps and implement improvements to drive efficiency and consistency.

Location: Remote Position Pay Range: $77,833.60 - $152,796.80

Position Summary

The Associate Director of Contracting provides operational leadership for payer contracting activities across American Oncology Network (AON). This role is accountable for day-to-day execution, workflow oversight, people leadership, documentation integrity, and operational discipline across all contracting functions. Serving as the operational partner to the Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer, the Associate Director ensures that contracting strategy is consistently translated into reliable, timely, and accurate execution across practices and markets.

Key Performance Areas
KPA 1. People Leadership & Team Development
  • Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and performance guidance to Contract Managers across multiple markets
  • Support onboarding, training, and ongoing competency development to ensure consistent contracting practices
  • Lead daily huddles and establish a structured weekly contracting team cadence
  • Set clear expectations, reinforce accountability, and ensure follow-through on assigned work
  • Foster a culture of accuracy, consistency, ownership, and continuous improvement
  • Serve as a point of escalation for operational issues while promoting problem-solving at the team level
KPA 2. Contracting Process & Workflow Leadership
  • Own and manage end-to-end contracting workflows, pipelines, timelines, and deliverables
  • Oversee contracting-related activities associated with new practice onboarding and transitions
  • Ensure accurate maintenance of payer mix spreadsheets, contracting trackers, and operational dashboards
  • Establish and enforce documentation standards, version control, and quality review processes
  • Coordinate closely with Credentialing, Revenue Cycle, Operations, and other internal stakeholders to ensure alignment and execution
  • Identify process gaps and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and consistency
KPA 3. Systems, Technology & Data Enablement
  • Manage contracting tasks, document workflows, and version control within Evisort
  • Review and validate payer rate comparisons and benchmarking using Turquoise Health
  • Ensure structured, standardized use of SharePoint for contracting documentation and SOPs
  • Partner with Credentialing teams to support Provider Passport workflows related to enrollment and contracting alignment
  • Collaborate with analytics and strategy partners to enable system-driven insights and reporting for contracting operations
KPA 4. Strategic Execution & Operational Partnership
  • Translate contracting strategy into clear operational plans and execution standards
  • Support leadership decision‑making through accurate data, reporting, and operational insight
  • Ensure contracting activities are scalable, repeatable, and aligned with organizational growth objectives
  • Act as a reliable operational partner to senior leadership, ensuring execution discipline across markets
Role Boundaries (Not Responsible For)
  • Executive-level payer negotiations or crisis escalations
  • Oversight or management of Credentialing functions (maintained under separate leadership)
  • AI or data system architecture, automation design, or technical development
  • Ownership of national payer strategy or rate modeling decisions
  • Extended after-hours workload beyond reasonable operational requirements
Position Qualifications

Minimum of 5 years of payer contracting or managed care experience

  • Experience in oncology or specialty medical contracting
  • Hands‑on experience with Evisort, Turquoise Health, and/or Provider Passport
  • Prior experience supervising Contract Managers, analysts, or project‑based teams
Skills
  • Strong process ownership skills with demonstrated spreadsheet and documentation discipline
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage complex, multi-market workflows and priorities
