Job summary

Perry Ellis International is seeking a driven individual for a design role focused on Men’s Cut & Sew Knitwear and Sweaters. The designer will actively support the Design Director in various phases of product development, requiring a solid foundation in design principles and market research.

Job description

Responsibilities

• Supports Design Director as an active participant in the design and development of Men’s Cut & Sew Knitwear and Sweaters.
• Responsible for key elements of the product design process, including market research, pattern development, sketching in 2D and 3D, fittings, and tech pack handoffs.
• Research competitors frequently through in‑store visits and e‑commerce sites.
• Help maintain organization of design materials and digital information.
• Design commercially viable products for target customers and price points.
• Attend design meetings, presentations, take detailed notes and conduct follow‑up tasks regularly.
• Participate in fittings and work closely with Tech Design, Product Development, and Merchandising teams.
• Create and maintain complete tech packs for multiple seasons simultaneously.
• Approve lab‑dips, knit‑downs, strike‑offs for development, as well as pre‑production approvals for bulk production.
• Occasional domestic travel may be required.

Skills

• High level of creativity with a passion for design.
• Working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
• Ability to learn new computer technology, including 3‑D design and NEDGraphics.
• Knowledge of silhouettes, fabrication, yarn, and stitch.
• Strong taste level with experience designing for full‑price and off‑price markets.
• Strong organizational, time‑management, and communication skills.
• Ability to present in front of a diverse audience of cross‑functional partners.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Design or related field.
• 3+ years of design experience, preferably in Men’s Sweaters and Cut & Sew Knitwear.

Salary & Benefits

Base salary will be between $70,000 and $80,000 annually, at the discretion of the Company based on qualifications.
