Job summary

Lincoln Financial’s AI, Data and Analytics (AIDA) organization seeks a production-focused data engineer to connect legacy sources, implement transformations, and bring testing, lineage, and provenance into daily delivery. You’ll build ingestion pipelines, develop FastAPI services, and contribute to data-quality testing, deployed via CI/CD in a hybrid Radnor, PA environment.

Job description

Join Lincoln Financial’s AI, Data and Analytics (AIDA) organization and help build the data and service capabilities behind Lincoln’s priority AI-ready data products. This hybrid role focuses on production-ready engineering: connecting legacy sources, implementing transformations and agent-facing interfaces, and bringing testing, lineage, and provenance into everyday delivery.

What you’ll do

• Build ingestion, transformation, and curated data models using SQL, Python, and approved AWS services.
• Develop and maintain FastAPI and Pydantic services, including Model Context Protocol tools, with clear schemas, validation, error handling, and documentation.
• Translate source mappings and business rules into tested implementation, partnering with business experts to clarify definitions and exceptions.
• Create unit, integration, contract, reconciliation, and data-quality tests using pytest, mocks, and reusable fixtures.
• Deploy via GitLab CI/CD (or comparable pipelines) and support production workloads with logs, metrics, traces, and runbooks.
• Include metadata, lineage, provenance, and access requirements as part of the definition of done for production work.

What you bring

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience, plus typically 1 to 3 years of relevant experience or demonstrated capability.
• Hands-on Python and SQL, including strong understanding of joins, keys, data types, and foundational data modeling.
• Working experience with FastAPI, Pydantic, pytest, and testable Python design.
• Experience building or extending a Model Context Protocol server (or comparable agent-facing tool interface), along with working knowledge of Git, CI/CD, and a cloud data environment.
• Ability to learn an unfamiliar business domain quickly, clearly explain implementation choices, and handle sensitive data with care.

Helpful experience (nice to have)

• AWS services such as AWS Glue, Athena, Lake Formation, IAM, Lambda, ECS, or comparable tools.
• Data engineering tools such as dbt, Apache Airflow or Amazon MWAA, and Spark (or comparable technologies).
• Document ingestion, classification, retrieval, or RAG data preparation, and experience in insurance, financial services, healthcare, or other regulated industries.
