Job summary

CDC Data Centres is seeking a hands-on Critical Environment Technician to operate in live data centres. This site-based role focuses on planned works, maintenance, and reliable day-to-day operations during business hours.

You will play a key role in delivering technical facilities management, coordinating maintenance, and responding to incidents to keep environments safe, secure and operational. Training is provided through the CDC Academy to develop your skills in a growing industry.

Qualifications

• Trade or technical background in Electrical, Refrigeration/HVAC, Mechanical.
• Experience in high-availability environments with safety standards.
• Willingness to learn with CDC Academy training.

Responsibilities

• Monitor alarms and respond to faults in power, cooling, and fire systems.
• Conduct physical inspections of equipment and infrastructure.
• Coordinate maintenance and site operations to ensure reliability.
• Respond to incidents and determine escalation needs with contractors.
• Support planned maintenance and supervise on-site contractors.
• Document maintenance and incident reports for continuous improvement.

About the Role:

At CDC, our Critical Environment Technicians work hands‑on in live data centres, supporting the day‑to‑day operation of mission critical infrastructure. This is a site‑based role focused on planned works, maintenance, site logistics, and overall reliability during business hours.

You’ll play a key role in delivering technical facilities management — coordinating maintenance, managing site operations, and responding to incidents to keep our environments safe, secure, and always on.

If you’ve worked in electrical, HVAC, or industrial environments, much of this will feel familiar. The difference is the scale, the environment, and the opportunity to step into a stable, high‑growth industry.

You’ll be part of CDC’s Operations team — on the ground every day, working closely together to deliver a strong customer experience and keep our facilities running at their best.

What you’ll be doing day‑to‑day:

• Monitoring and responding to alarms and alerts across power, cooling, and fire systems
• Performing physical inspections to ensure equipment and infrastructure are operating within defined parameters
• Responding to faults and incidents, prioritising actions, and determining when escalation or contractor support is required
• Carrying out operational switching and control activities to prevent unplanned outages
• Supporting planned maintenance and monitoring contractors on site, ensuring strict adherence to safety procedures and approved methods of operation
• Documenting incidents, maintenance activities, and observations to support continuous improvement

About You

You have experience working in environments where reliability, safety, and procedure matter - whether that’s through an electrical, HVAC, mechanical, or broader critical infrastructure background.

You might be a qualified electrician or HVAC technician looking to move away from a traditional tools‑based role and into operations, or someone in their technical career who is curious about how large‑scale, mission‑critical environments operate.

Regardless of background, we value motivation, strong attention to detail, and a willingness to learn and develop within a growing industry.

Desirable experience:

• A trade or technical background in Electrical, Refrigeration/HVAC, Mechanical, or a related field (highly desirable)
• Experience working in critical or high‑availability environments with strong safety and compliance requirements
• Exposure to monitoring or control systems such as BMS, EMS, or SCADA‑type platforms
• Familiarity with complex infrastructure or plant equipment (e.g. HVAC systems, power systems, generators, fire systems)
• Strong fault‑finding, problem‑solving, and situational awareness skills
• The ability to produce clear documentation, logs, and post‑incident reports

Essential:

Australian Citizenship with ability to obtain and maintain a NV1 Security Clearance.
