Job summary

Amazon MGM Studios is hiring an Associate Corporate Counsel in California to support our motion picture group and scripted television slate from development through production.

You will draft and negotiate a broad range of entertainment agreements, advise on risk, and collaborate with creative, business affairs, and production teams. A strong background in entertainment law and a CA bar license are essential.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of post bar admission legal experience.
  • Knowledge of AI ethics in a legal context (confidentiality, accuracy, bias).
  • Active California State Bar membership.
  • Experience handling multiple projects with tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Structure, draft, and negotiate a high volume of agreements for scripted series and motion picture projects.
  • Manage chain-of-title across projects and resolve complex rights issues.
  • Interpret contracts and provide legal advice on risks across IP, defamation, publicity, privacy, and labor matters.

Are you looking for a new challenge in a fast-paced, innovative company? Come support ground-breaking storytelling at Amazon MGM Studios. We’re seeking a talented Associate Corporate Counsel to support our rapidly evolving original programming slates.

In this role, you’ll be a critical legal partner for our feature-length motion picture group, with opportunities to support the scripted television series group, managing all legal aspects from development through production. You’ll dive into intricate legal frameworks for motion picture and streaming projects, analyzing and drafting agreements to protect against legal risks while empowering storytellers to create compelling programming.

Key job responsibilities
  • Structure, draft, and negotiate a high volume of agreements for scripted series and motion picture projects, including rights option/purchase and acquisition agreements, key above-the-line agreements such as writer, producer and director agreements, first look and overall agreements, production services agreements, and co-production agreements.
  • Manage chain-of-title across projects and evaluate and resolve complex rights issues.
  • Analyze issues, interpret contracts and provide thoughtful legal advice to creative, business affairs, production, marketing, publicity and other teams on potential risks and issues involving a wide range of legal areas, including intellectual property, defamation, publicity and privacy rights, guilds, labor and employment, public policy, safety, and regulatory and compliance matters.
  • Develop robust legal frameworks, processes and policies that support creative innovation
Qualifications
  • 2+ years of post bar admission legal experience
  • Knowledge of the ethical considerations surrounding AI in the legal context, such as confidentiality, accuracy, and bias prevention
  • Juris Doctor degree
  • Active membership in California State Bar
  • Experience managing multiple projects and meeting aggressive deadlines
  • Can communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Law firm experience and familiarity with legal issues in the television, film and/or entertainment industry
  • Ability to work independently while effectively supporting and collaborating with cross-functional teams
  • Strong, detail-oriented analytical skills with a practical, solutions-oriented approach to resolving issues and ambiguity

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
