Providence St. Vincent Medical Center is seeking an Associate Cook for an on-call, variable schedule in Portland. The role supports patient and staff meals, following healthcare food service standards and safety regulations.

Responsibilities include preparing and portioning items from recipes, maintaining sanitation, and adhering to HACCP and regulatory guidelines in a high-volume environment. Per-diem scheduling may apply with on-site work at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center.

Qualifications

• National Food Handler Card required.
• 2 years in high-volume food service in prep/grill roles.
• 1 year experience using recipes and portioning production items.

Description

All Food Service staff must provide a high level of customer service for patients, family members, volunteers, physicians and staff. The Service Excellence Standards of Behavior guidelines must be adhered to at all times. Must have comprehensive knowledge of, and be compliant with, specified regulatory requirements, and food safety and sanitation regulations for food service in a health care environment. Proper sanitation procedures and practices must be following to assure the cleanliness and sanitation of ware-washing, service-ware, equipment in the work area. Adhere to County/State Health department, hospital, and department standards, policies and procedures at all times.

Required Qualifications:

• National Food Handler Card - State County City Authority upon hire.
• 2 years working in a high volume, full service restaurant or institutional food service facility working in a prep cook/ grill cook capacity where at least 2 of the 3 major meal periods.
• 1 year of experience working from recipes and experience prepping and portioning items needed in the production process.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Coursework/Training: 12 months formal culinary education/degree.
• Diversified cooking experience, which includes any combination of the following positions: line/grill/broiler/catering cook, hot and cold prep and production.
• Experience in a USDA or HACCP production facility.
• Healthcare food service using therapeutic diets.
• Experience developing recipes and creating daily menu special in a large scale restaurant or commercial food service facility.

Posted are the minimum and the maximum wage rates on the wage range for this position. The successful candidate's placement on the wage range for this position will be determined based upon relevant job experience and other applicable factors. These amounts are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
