Job summary

Michels Power, Inc. is seeking an Associate Construction Project Manager – Substation to support nationwide, long-term onsite projects. This role pairs field-based oversight with project coordination, ensuring safe, on-time delivery of substation construction activities.

You will assist the Project Manager, track budgets and schedules, coordinate with crews and vendors, and help develop performance metrics while upholding a strong safety culture and teamwork across the Substation Group.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management or related field.
• 0–3 years of related experience (substation, electrical, or utility construction preferred).
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for long-term onsite assignments.
• Experience with job cost tracking or estimating software is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Promote and maintain a strong safety culture on sites and in programs.
• Assist Project Manager in planning, organizing, and implementing project tasks.
• Support development and tracking of project performance metrics, budgets, and cost controls.
• Coordinate with field crews, subcontractors, engineers, and utility stakeholders.
• Assist with material procurement, submittals, and equipment tracking.
• Maintain project documentation including cost reporting and scheduling records.
• Support change management and project closeout activities.

Position Objective

The Associate Construction Project Manager – Substation , under direct supervision, serves as project support by planning, organizing, and implementing project management principles. This role must demonstrate an understanding of how the business operates, how changing circumstances are managed, and who to engage for support when needed.

Success in this role requires strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, meet deadlines, and anticipate and support internal customer needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Promote and maintain a strong safety culture , ensuring compliance with all safety and environmental policies, procedures, and regulations
• Assist Project Manager(s) in managing projects under direct supervision
• Support development and tracking of project performance metrics , budgets, and cost controls
• Assist with cost tracking, labor tracking, scheduling, and reporting
• Coordinate with field crews, subcontractors, engineers, and utility stakeholders
• Support material procurement, submittals, and equipment tracking
• Assist with subcontractor management and contract compliance
• Maintain project documentation including cost reporting, billing, scheduling, and budgeting records
• Assist with federal/state agency correspondence and reporting
• Maintain project schedules under supervision
• Participate in construction-related meetings to support project coordination
• Assist in proposal preparation, estimating, and quantity take-offs
• Provide onsite administrative and project support during long-term assignments
• Assist with change management, productivity tracking, and project closeout activities
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management , or related field
  (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
• 0–3 years of related experience (substation, electrical, or utility construction preferred)
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
• Ability to travel and commit to long-term onsite project assignments
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (experience with job cost tracking or estimating software is a plus)
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
