Job summary

First Interstate Bank is seeking an Associate Community Banker to deliver personalized client service and determine client needs through financial conversations. You will maintain relationships and help document referrals across banking lines, following our service commitments and values.

You will handle a range of accounts, teller duties, and potential consumer loans. The role emphasizes accuracy, compliance, and proactive outreach to clients in Milbank, SD.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Banking or related experience preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and confidentiality.
  • Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively.
  • Experience with a variety of financial transactions and teller duties.
  • Familiarity with digital platforms and CRM systems.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers personalized client service in person and over the phone by answering questions, assisting with issues, and offering solutions.
  • Opens and maintains a variety of products, including consumer and basic business checking and savings accounts, Individual Retirement Accounts, Certificates of Deposit, consumer credit cards, and more.
  • Performs Teller duties, conducting a variety of financial transactions such as check cashing, deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, and accurately counting currency and coin.
  • May engage in conversations about and process new consumer loan requests.
  • Holds financial conversations with clients and prospects to determine needs and provide appropriate solutions.
  • Identifies referral opportunities to other lines of business—including, but not limited to, Home Loans, Treasury Solutions, Merchant Services, Business Banking, and Wealth Management—consistently utilizing 360 View to document referrals and other client activity.
  • Builds client relationships through proactive outreach and follow‑up.
  • Completes work accurately with minimal errors.
  • Participates in volunteer activities and financial education efforts.
  • Stays current on regulatory changes and demonstrates compliance with all bank regulations, policies, and procedures related to assigned job functions; knowledge may be gained through coursework and on‑the‑job training.

Summary

  • This position requires compliance with the S.A.F.E. Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 and all related regulations. Employment is contingent upon meeting these requirements, including acceptable background investigation results.
Education and/or Experience

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required. Banking or related experience required.
