Job summary

Institutes of Health in California seeks an Associate Clinician (AMFT, ASW or APCC) to provide confidential, trauma-informed counseling to first responders and families. Primarily in clinic with telehealth as needed, you will build experience in trauma treatment, couples therapy and child/adolescent care under a California BBS approved supervisor.

Flexible scheduling includes daytime, evening and weekend slots; opportunities may be in multiple North County locations.

Qualifications

• Active and unrestricted California registration as an AMFT, ASW or APCC
• Master's degree in psychology, counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy or a closely related field
• Interest in trauma informed care and evidence based clinical practices
• Ability to work within the scope of an associate registration and participate in required supervision
• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
• Comfort using electronic health record systems
• Current CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain certification before starting

Responsibilities

• Provide individual, family and couples counseling to first responders, public safety personnel, spouses, partners, children and adolescents
• Conduct clinical assessments and develop individualized treatment plans
• Provide trauma informed individual, family and relationship therapy
• Support children, adolescents and families through age appropriate interventions
• Apply evidence based approaches such as EMDR, CPT, Prolonged Exposure, TF CBT, DBT, ACT and Motivational Interviewing
• Develop experience with couples therapy approaches such as the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy
• Provide psychoeducation on trauma, mental health, coping strategies and treatment expectations
• Coordinate care with referral partners, employee assistance programs, peer support teams and community providers when appropriate
• Maintaining timely, accurate and confidential clinical documentation
• Participating in required individual or group supervision with a BBS approved supervisor
• Additional training and supervision will be provided. Proficiency in every listed treatment modality is not required at the associate level

Institutes of Health is seeking compassionate Associate Clinicians who are interested in providing confidential, trauma informed counseling to first responders, public safety professionals and their families.

This is an excellent opportunity for an AMFT, ASW or APCC who wants to build experience in trauma treatment while developing skills in couples therapy and child and adolescent care. You will work under the guidance of a California BBS approved clinical supervisor while accruing supervised hours toward licensure.

We offer flexible scheduling options, including daytime, evening and weekend availability. Opportunities may be available in San Diego, Oceanside, Vista, San Marcos, Escondido, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Poway, Fallbrook and Ramona.

What You Will Do

Preferred Qualifications

We are especially interested in candidates with training, coursework or clinical experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Couples and relationship therapy
• The Gottman Method or Emotionally Focused Therapy
• Child and adolescent counseling
• Trauma treatment and PTSD
• EMDR, CPT, Prolonged Exposure or TF CBT
• First responder or public safety populations
• Critical Incident Stress Management
• Employee assistance programs
• Substance use and co occurring conditions

Certification is welcomed but not required. Candidates who are motivated to grow in these areas through supervision and training are encouraged to apply.
