Job summary

UnitedHealth Group, through Optum Home & Community Care, is hiring for a remote Customer Service role operating within the Eastern Time Zone. You will support members and providers by handling intake, referrals, and inquiries in a high-volume environment. Training is provided virtually from home.

The position is full-time, with hours 8:00 am to 5:00 pm EST and occasional overtime. Benefits and company support are offered to help you succeed and grow within the organization.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED or equivalent required.
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • 1+ years of customer service experience.
  • 1+ years of experience in a telephonic customer service position (call center).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the intake of members or the admission/discharge information post notification.
  • Coordinate with hospitals, clinics, facilities and the clinical team to manage service requests from members and/or providers.
  • Manage the referral process, including intake, notification and census roles and prior authorizations.
  • Provide appropriate triage and care coordination notification for non-clinical assessment/intervention.
  • Handle resolutions/inquiries from members and/or providers in a high-volume customer service environment.

This position is Remote in Eastern Time Zone. You will have the flexibility to work remotely* as you take on some tough challenges.

This position is full time. Employees are required to have flexibility to work our normal business hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm EST. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime.

We offer 3 weeks of paid training. The hours during training will be 8:00 am - 5:00 pm EST, Monday - Friday. Training will be conducted virtually from your home.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Manage the intake of members or the admission/discharge information post notification
  • Work with hospitals, clinics, facilities and the clinical team to manage requests for services from members and/or providers
  • Manage the referral process, processing incoming and outgoing referrals and prior authorizations, including intake, notification and census roles
  • Provide appropriate triage and care coordination notification cases for non-clinical assessment/intervention
  • Handle resolution/inquiries from members and/or providers. This is high volume, customer service environment. You'll need to be efficient, productive and thorough dealing with our members over the phone

Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma / GED OR equivalent work experience
  • Must be 18 years of age OR older
  • 1+ years of customer service experience analyzing and solving customer problems
  • 1+ years of experience in a telephonic customer service position, such as a call center
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel (ability to create, edit, save and send documents and spreadsheets)
  • Ability to work full time. Employees are required to have flexibility to work our normal business hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Call center experience
  • Knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT codes
  • Clerical OR administrative support background
  • Experience working in a metric-driven work environment
  • Experience working with Medicare and / OR Medicaid Services
  • Experience working within the health care Industry and with health care insurance
Telecommuting Requirements:
  • Reside within Eastern Time Zone
  • Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
  • Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy
  • Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service

  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong time management skills
  • Must be able to type and talk at the same time and navigate through multiple screens

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $16 - $29 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
