Job summary

The City of Sacramento is seeking an Assistant/Associate Civil Engineer to perform professional civil engineering work in planning, design, technical investigation, and construction of public works projects in transportation, hydraulics, and structures.

Position requires a civil engineering degree (or equivalent), EIT/PE certification, and experience progressing from planning to construction. Registration and probationary period apply; bilingual pay and civil service rules noted.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or equivalent.
• Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or PE registration preferred.
• Ability to plan, design, and supervise civil engineering projects.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and participate in plans and specifications for water, street, drainage, and related public works projects.
• Assign routine inspection and drafting tasks to subordinates and review work.
• Research building codes and industry standards.
• Develop and revise design and construction standards.
• Coordinate planning, design, and construction with City departments and external agencies.
• Administer contracts for construction projects.
• Ensure plans meet City requirements for private developments.
• Provide staff support to City commissions and committees.
