Covenant Living invites applications for a Chaplain to provide pastoral leadership across campus ministries, spiritual counseling, and personal guidance to residents, families, and staff. The role partners with the Lead Chaplain and Administration to maintain strong clergy ties and coordinate faith-based programming.

The Chaplain will lead worship, offer religious instruction, and participate in committees, with on-call support in emergencies as needed.

Qualifications

• Master's level graduate of an accredited seminary or school of theology.
• Prefer Board Chaplain Certification or eligibility for CPE within 2–4 units.
• Minimum 1 year of experience as a chaplain or in faith-based care.

Responsibilities

• Chaplains plan, coordinate, and lead worship for each level of care, matching resident needs.
• Provide direct spiritual care to patients, families, and staff, and lead caregiver support groups when needed.
• Establish rapport with local clergy, serving as ambassador for Covenant Living to keep residents connected to their spiritual leaders.
• Organize community programming: worship, teaching, devotionals, and seminars with visiting clergy as needed.
• Engage in LifeConnect profiling to inform staff about resident spiritual needs, and participate in committees.
• Assist in emergencies or crises and help establish after-hours on-call protocols.

The Chaplain provides pastoral leadership in coordinating all campus ministerial activities including spiritual, religious, and personal counseling/guidance to residents, family members and staff. Acts as a key ministry partner with the Lead Chaplain under their supervision. Serves in a staff relationship to Administration and Department Directors. Establishes and maintains strong ties and relationships with all community residents, their families and their clergy. Functions as a key contact with clergy from the community surrounding the campus.

Essential Responsibilities

• Chaplains plan, coordinate, and lead worship for each level of care, determining frequency that meets the needs of their residents. This may include regular services, sacraments, and occasional/seasonal offerings. Preaching/leading may be shared with volunteers or retired clergy.


• Provides direct spiritual care to patients, families/caregivers, and staff fitting to their unique needs and in a timely manner. Where needed, lead/facilitate caregiver support groups.


• Establish and maintain good rapport with local clergy, acting as an ambassador for CL and working together to keep residents connected to and supported by their chosen spiritual leader(s) and community.


• Chaplains are responsible for community programing such as hosted worship, teaching, devotionals and spiritual life. The Chaplain may invite local or retired clergy to lead services (e.g., Catholic Mass, Episcopal Liturgy, Jewish Shabbat services, etc.) and can welcome local ministry leaders to speak. Teaching: Chaplains participate in a teaching role in matters of faith, spirituality and Bible study appropriate to various levels of care, which can include facilitation of volunteer clergy or lay leaders to offer such teaching or seminars.


• As members of community leadership, chaplains will engage the spiritual wellness section of residents’ LifeConnect profiles, using this information to alert pertinent staff of areas for support as residents settle into the community. Chaplains will participate and lead stand‑up meetings and serve on committees or teams as assigned.


• Assist in emergency situations and times of crisis, including establishing an on-call protocol for after hours.

Education And Work Experience

• Required Degree: Master's Level Graduate of Accredited Seminary or School of Theology


• Preferred Certification: Board Chaplain Certification (BCC) or eligible for certification with 2-4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)


• Experience: 1+ Years

Physical Requirements

• Sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office/community setting.

• Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight up to 50 lbs.


• Ability to operate various equipment base on department and weather conditions


• Engaging in repetitive movements of wrists, hands, and fingers – typing and/or writing.

Compensation Pay Range

$73,994.00 - $103,010.00 per year

Reasonable Pay Estimate

A reasonable estimate of the pay range for this position is $73,994.00 - $103,010.00 per year. There are numerous factors taken into consideration in determining the actual offered rate of pay, including but not limited to: job-related qualifications, experience, skills, education, geographic location, and consideration of internal and external equity.
