Job summary

Clearway Energy Group in San Francisco, CA seeks an Associate to lead business development and mergers & acquisitions for solar, wind, and energy storage projects. You will build financial models, perform market analyses, and manage due diligence to drive strategic investments.

You will prepare reports for senior leadership, support deal execution, and collaborate cross‑functionally to optimize value across development, procurement, construction, and financing.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or closely related quantitative field, plus three (3) years of strategic operational and business analysis for renewable energy projects.
  • 3 years of experience performing financial modeling and valuation for engineering and/or energy storage projects.
  • 3 years of experience navigating MS Excel (including VBA) and discounted cashflow models.
  • 3 years of experience utilizing MS Office suite (including MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook, MS Teams, MS OneNote, etc.) as well as Arcadia Signal, and SAP.
  • 2 years of experience understanding power market fundamentals, including NY-ISO, PJM, MISO, ERCOT, SPP, CAISO, WECC, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement financial models and capital structures for project profitability and sustainability.
  • Conduct market analysis, early-stage prospecting, and interconnection assessments to identify growth opportunities.
  • Manage due diligence for mergers and acquisitions with subject-matter experts to ensure smooth transactions.
  • Prepare high-quality reports and presentations for senior leadership, committees, and boards.
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative assessments of projects and markets and lead early-stage transactions when needed.
  • Improve financial and technical modeling tools for better decision-making in energy storage and engineering projects.
  • Ensure projects meet underwriting standards and align with investment metrics, delivering forecasted cash flows.
  • Create systems to track market activity and origination strategies to identify new growth areas and M&A targets.
  • Contribute to competitive pricing models and bidding approaches to secure offtake contracts for large-scale renewables.
  • Support origination and financing of existing renewable projects in line with company objectives.
  • Apply advanced quantitative methods to assess and mitigate risks in structured commodity transactions.
  • Drive initiatives that create value across development, procurement, construction, and financing, including deal tracking and financial optimization.

Associate, Business Development and Mergers & Acquisitions (San Francisco, CA)

Leverage advanced knowledge of mechanical and energy systems engineering principles to lead the acquisition and merger activities of various solar, wind, and energy storage projects. Specific duties include:

  • Design and implement financial models and capital structures that maximize project economics, ensuring profitability and long-term sustainability for renewable energy assets.
  • Conduct fundamental market analysis, early-stage prospecting, and transmission/interconnection assessments while engaging in local advocacy to identify strategic growth opportunities.
  • Manage critical aspects of due diligence for mergers and acquisitions, coordinating with subject‑matter experts to assess risks, validate assumptions, and ensure smooth transaction execution.
  • Develop high-quality reports and presentations for senior leadership, committees, and boards, summarizing financial analyses, transaction opportunities, and strategic recommendations.
  • Perform detailed quantitative and qualitative assessments of projects and markets and take ownership of early‑stage transactions when required to accelerate deal progress.
  • Lead efforts to improve financial and technical modeling tools, enabling better decision‑making for energy storage and engineering projects across the organization.
  • Work cross‑functionally to ensure projects meet underwriting standards, align with investment metrics, and deliver forecasted cash flows for renewable energy portfolios.
  • Create systems to track market activity and internal origination strategies, providing actionable insights to identify new growth areas and potential M&A targets.
  • Contribute to competitive pricing models and bidding approaches to secure offtake contracts for large‑scale wind, solar, and energy storage projects within the company’s portfolio.
  • Provide analytical and strategic support for the origination and financing of existing renewable projects, ensuring alignment with company objectives and market conditions.
  • Apply advanced quantitative methods to assess and mitigate risks in structured commodity transactions, supporting sound investment decisions for energy systems projects.
  • Drive initiatives that create value across development, procurement, construction, and financing processes, including improving deal tracking, underwriting, and financial optimization.

May telecommute up to 60% of the workweek from any U.S. location.

Minimum Requirements

Master’s degree or foreign equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or closely related quantitative field, plus three (3) years of experience conducting strategic operational and business analysis for renewable energy engineering projects. Experience must include the following, which may be gained concurrently, prior to, during, or after completion of advanced degree:

  • 3 years of experience performing financial modeling and valuation for engineering and/or energy storage projects;
  • 3 years of experience navigating MS Excel (including VBA) and discounted cashflow models;
  • 3 years of experience utilizing MS Office suite (including but not limited to MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook, MS Teams, MS OneNote, etc.) as well as Arcadia Signal, and SAP; and
  • 2 years of experience understanding power market fundamentals, including regulated and de‑regulated energy markets, including NY-ISO, PJM, MISO, ERCOT, SPP, CAISO, WECC, etc.

Job site: 100 California Street, Suite 650, San Francisco CA 94111. 40 hours per week, 9:00am to 5:00pm. Salary: $152,069.
