Role Summary

The Bid Manager coordinates the end-to-end pursuit process for sales opportunities, helping the team qualify, plan, govern, and progress the deal from early shaping through proposal, negotiation, and handoff. The role builds the detailed pursuit plan, aligns resources, tracks actions and risks, supports sales strategy and close planning, and keeps a geographically dispersed team moving toward common milestones.

This is an individual contributor role that leads through influence. It is designed for a developing bid or pursuit professional with 3 to 5 years of relevant experience who can independently manage defined pursuits and grow into larger, more complex deals with coaching.

Success in the role

A successful Bid Manager brings structure, visibility, and momentum to the pursuit. The team knows what must happen, who owns it, when it is due, what is at risk, and which decisions are needed. The pursuit moves through governance with accurate records and reaches each client milestone prepared and on time.

  • Track pursuit risks, issues, assumptions, actions, and decisions, then drive closure or elevate appropriately.
  • Support the opportunity owner in developing and executing the close plan.
  • Guide team members on current sales processes, governance requirements, policies, and approval expectations.
  • Maintain a regular cadence of pursuit meetings, reviews, status updates, and decision points.
