Job summary

ATKINSON ANDELSON LOYA RUUD & ROMO APC is seeking an Associate Attorney specializing in Environmental & Water Law in California. The role supports advisory, transactional, and litigation services for public agencies, agricultural interests, and tribal rights.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of environmental/water law experience, with strong research, writing, and client communication skills. Prior exposure to Brown Act and related public law matters is preferred.

Qualifications

• At least three years of experience with environmental and/or water law matters for public and/or private clients.
• Experience with public sector clients such as cities, counties, and special districts; knowledge of the Brown Act, Public Records Act, and Conflicts of Interests.
• Experience assisting in discovery and pleadings for litigation or proceedings at state administrative agencies such as the State Water Resources Control Board.
• Excellent legal research and analysis skills with ability to meet specific timelines.
• Excellent writing skills from client memoranda to motions in adversarial proceedings.
• Ability to prepare and respond to written discovery with limited supervision.
• Ability to interface with clients professionally on environmental and/or labor matters.
• Willingness to take ownership of matters and develop action plans.

Associate Attorney – Environmental & Water Law

Specific skills sought are:

1. At least three years of experience with environmental and/or water law matters for public and/or private clients;
2. Experience with public sector clients such as cities, counties, and special districts is preferred with demonstrable knowledge of the Brown Act, Public Records Act, and Conflicts of Interests;
3. Experience with assisting in preparation of discovery and pleadings for litigation or adversarial proceedings at state administrative agencies such as the State Water Resources Control Board;
4. Excellent legal research and analysis skills and demonstrated ability to perform comprehensive research on specific timelines;
5. Excellent writing skills ranging from client memorandums to law and motion work in adversarial proceedings;
6. Ability to handle and manage, with limited supervision and oversight, preparing and responding to written discovery;
7. Ability to interface with clients and convey a level of professionalism and competence in terms of both the legal and strategic issues in environmental and/or labor matters;
8. Willingness to take ownership of a matter and ability to develop a plan and/or course of action;
