Job summary

Newport Williams, a well-established law firm in the New York/New Jersey market, seeks an experienced Associate to join its Trusts & Estates team in New Jersey. You will step into an established practice with an existing client base and carry meaningful responsibility from day one, leading preparation of wills and wealth transfer documents for diverse clients.

The role emphasizes proactive counsel, tax and elder law awareness, and independent management of matters from consultation to drafting

Qualifications

• Active JD with admission in good standing in New Jersey.
• 5+ years of experience in tax, trusts, and estate planning.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple matters independently.
• Proactive and resourceful with strong judgment.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary attorney responsible for an established trusts and estates practice.
• Advise clients and families on customized estate planning and wealth transfer strategies, probate proceedings, and the planning of complex estates.
• Draft, review, and oversee estate planning documents, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, advance directives, and related planning tools.
• Handle all aspects of trust administration, including fiduciary accounting.
• Manage the full client experience — initial consultation through drafting, signing, and follow-up.
• Stay current on developments in estate planning, tax, elder law, and asset protection to provide thoughtful legal guidance.

Seeking an experienced Associate to join its Trusts & Estates team in New Jersey.

This is an unusual opportunity: rather than building from scratch, you would step into an established trusts and estates practice with an existing client base and meaningful responsibility from day one. You will lead the preparation of wills and other wealth transfer documents for clients across a wide range of family circumstances and levels of wealth.

What You'll Do

• Serve as the primary attorney responsible for an established trusts and estates practice
• Advise clients and families on customized estate planning and wealth transfer strategies, probate proceedings, and the planning of complex estates
• Draft, review, and oversee estate planning documents, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, advance directives, and related planning tools

What You'll Bring

• 5+ years of experience in tax law, trusts, and estate planning
• JD with excellent academic credentials
• Admitted and in good standing in New Jersey
• Tax, special needs planning, and elder law experience are a plus
