Job summary

Royal Caribbean Group is seeking an Associate, Architectural and Design to manage architectural design work for newbuilds, revitalizations, and refurbishments, coordinating with external firms worldwide. The role reviews drawings, recommends decisions, and contributes innovative design solutions in collaboration with supervisory leadership.

The position emphasizes applying design guidelines and standards, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and maintaining strong client/consultant relationships

Qualifications

  • Design experience preferable; cruise industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Interior Design or Architecture is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure design intent is clear and aligns with brand voice across the design process.
  • Understand and apply design guidelines, standards, and contract references.
  • Support project team across design phases and share best practices.
  • Attend sponsor meetings when required and communicate progress clearly.
  • Create presentations for design management and maintain client/consultant relationships.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Associate, Architectural and Design, manages and coordinates architectural design work for newbuild, revitalization or refurbishment projects. Assists in planning and managing design deliverables while cross coordinating and sharing best practices effectively between external architectural, interior design and consultancy firms worldwide. In collaboration with supervisor, he/she will review drawings/proposals, recommend decisions, and provide innovative solutions and ideas.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensuresthe design intent isapparentand credible, and that the voice of the Executive Steering Committee and Brand Think Tank is communicated clearly and consistently throughout the design process.

Understands and applies design guidelines & standards, CADD & drawing standards, and contract references,assistingSupervisor with oversight that project materials are delivered ona timelybasis.

Supports project team usingwiderange of developing professional skills across multiple phases of the designprocess andlearning best practices.

Thrives in a collaborative, innovative, forward thinking, and proactive environment that brings all disciplines together and creates favorable results.

Commitment tolearning& growth of oneself and others.

Upholds SQM practices throughout all design phases.

Occasionally attends meetings with sponsors (clients).

Understandsimportanceof growth, andmaintainingclient / consultantrelationships studies, collects, shares,compares,and stores statistical information. Creates presentations for design management.

Possesses cost consciousness in all aspects of work and understandsimportanceof cost complexity balancing along with other cost control needs.

Occasionallyassistsin practicality reviews to check that operational, risk or accessibility concerns are being considered in all aspects of design.

Occasionally supports shop drawing review process, and yard / contractor coordination meetings, mockup reviews, factoryvisitsand inspections during newbuilding process and drydock period Receives specific and detailed instructions as to required tasks and expected results. Works under close supervision.

Takesownership of all assignments.

Stays current in industry trends and innovation through research and market knowledgeOccasionallyaccepts assignments for design concepts, space planning, design development, drawings & details (elevations, sections, details) of designated venues.

Performs other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Design experiencepreferable. Cruise industry experiencestronglypreferred.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Interior Design; Architecture preferred.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Skillsrequiredinclude CADD (incl Revit),Photoshop,PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.

3D skillspreferred. Must beeffectivecommunicator with project team (and sponsor whenrequired)exhibitinggood capabilities in written, oral, and graphic media.

Representsdepartment and self in a competent professional mannerIshighly motivated, efficient, and organized.

Has fundamental understanding of timemanagement,with priorities beingestablishedby supervisor.

Works on multiple projects, and multiple tasks under various team members. Hasstrongability tomaintainfocus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to travel internationally ordomestically10% of thetime at minimum.

The employeeis occasionally required towalk to shipbuilding or construction sites, ascending and descending the vessel during construction via multi-deck level stairs, and maneuvering around obstacles.

Visualrequirementsinclude distant, close and color vision, and ability to adjustfocus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job.

The environment includesworkinside/outside the office,travelto other offices, possiblytraveldomesticandinternational, andworkin shipboard functions.

A high noise level and reduced airconditionsare possible if visiting shipyard construction site, shipboard or offsite locations.
