Job summary

MSCI Inc. in New York is seeking a Payroll Associate to join the Americas Payroll Team within Finance. You will manage semi-monthly payrolls for the US, Mexico, Canada and Brazil, coordinating with external providers and ensuring accurate general ledger postings during monthly close.

The ideal candidate has 1–5+ years in payroll, strong Excel skills, and excellent communication. Fluency in English is required, Spanish a plus; a Finance/Accounting degree is preferred.

Qualifications

  • 1-5+ years’ professional experience in payroll or payroll accounting.
  • Experience working in an international payroll environment.
  • Strong MS Excel and desktop applications.
  • Fluent in English; Spanish would be a plus.
  • Payroll qualifications and diplomas are an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Administer Americas payrolls and coordinate with external payroll service providers in Mexico and Brazil; in-house processing for Canada and US.
  • Process payroll data including new hires, terminations, pay rate changes, special payments, tax allocations, work location changes, overtime, garnishments, and deductions.
  • Process bonuses, relocation, commissions, dividends, 13th month payments, savings fund contributions, Mexico coupons, RRSP and equity transactions.
  • Audit, analyze and reconcile payroll.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll tax laws and company policy.
  • Prepare reporting data for the legal entity controlling team.
  • Handle NY 14-day rule calculations.
  • Handle payroll tax related correspondences.
  • Resolve payroll-related employee inquiries and collaborate across departments.
  • Support adhoc payroll projects.
  • Process T-4’s and W-2’s

Your Team Responsibilities

The Americas Payroll Team as part of the Finance Department is responsible for a seamless semi-monthly payroll process in US, Mexico, Canada and Brazil and is responsible for general ledger entries during the monthly closing. We are looking for a Payroll Associate to join our incredible team.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for administration of assigned Americas payrolls ensuring that all payroll input is correctly communicated to our external payroll service providers in Mexico and Brazil and in house processing for Canada and US.
  • Ensure that payroll data including new hires, terminations, pay rate changes, special payments, tax allocations, work location changes, Overtime, garnishments, address changes and employee deductions are processed for Americas Payrolls.
  • Process all bonuses, relocation, commissions, dividends, 13th month payment, savings fund, savings bank, Mexico food coupons, RRSP and equity transactions.
  • Audit, analyze and reconcile payroll.
  • Ensure compliance with all payroll tax laws and company policy.
  • Process reporting data for Legal entity controlling team timely.
  • Handle processing and calculations of NY 14 day rule.
  • Handle the Payroll tax related correspondences.
  • Research and resolve any payroll related employee inquiries.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external departments.
  • Support any adhoc payroll projects assigned to the team.
  • Process T-4’s and W-2’s
Your Skills And Experience That Will Help You Excel
  • 1-5+ years’ professional experience, preferably within a similar payroll or payroll accounting role
  • Experience of working within an international and multi-cultural environment
  • Strong technical ability in MS Excel and other computer desktop applications
  • Highly motivated and proactive individual, eager to take personal ownership for the administration of payrolls and accounting
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a strong team-playing attitude
  • Detail-focused approach to ensure that all payroll is performed to the highest level of accuracy and to ensure that all control steps within the payroll process are rigorously adhered to
  • Ability to work independently, demonstrating a logical thought process and an ability to assimilate new information and tasks quickly
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and to re-align priorities when required at short notice
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting is preferred
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and desired Spanish
  • Payroll qualifications and diplomas are an advantage
