Job summary

Centene Corporation is seeking an Associate Actuary to conduct strategic analysis, pricing, peer review, and to build and support tools that aid planning processes and assess risk to estimate financial outcomes. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field and ASA certification or equivalent actuarial experience.
  • At least 2+ years of actuarial experience, including healthcare/Medicare Advantage exposure if possible.
  • Strong technical skills with Excel, SQL, SAS and ability to leverage AI tools for analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to Medicare strategic initiatives and planning.
  • Own/build tools and processes supporting internal users’ needs.
  • If eligible, review and certify MA bids (5-15 bids).
  • Apply mathematics, probability, statistics and finance to calculate outcomes.
  • Develop probability tables and regressions from data.
  • Research legislative impact on actuarial assumptions.
  • Analyze required premium rates and cash reserves.
  • Assess liabilities and prepare actuarial reports.
  • Participate in merger and acquisition analysis.
  • Perform other duties and comply with all policies.

Job description

Position Purpose:

Conduct strategic analysis, pricing, peer review, build and support tools to aid in planning processes and assessing risk to estimate financial outcomes. Manage actuarial needs and produce actuarial reports to aid in developing corporate strategy.



Key Details:

Candidates must have 2+ years of actuarial experience and hold an ASA designation. Ideal candidates will be strategic, innovative thinkers with healthcare and Medicare Advantage actuarial experience, including cost trend analysis and actuarial tool development, with a focus on building and enhancing planning tools that support business decision-making. Strong technical skills are required, including advanced Excel (e.g., arrays, PivotTables, VBA, and queries), SQL, SAS, and the ability to effectively leverage AI tools to enhance actuarial analysis and decision-making. This position is fully remote within the Continental United States (ET/CT preferred, not required).



In this Associate Actuary role, you will:


  • Contribute to and support Medicare strategic initiatives and planning

  • Own/build tools and/or processes, supporting related internal users’ needs

  • If eligible for American Academy of Actuaries membership, review and certify MA bids (typically 5-15 bids)

  • Apply knowledge of mathematics, probability, statistics, and principles of finance and business to calculate financial outcomes

  • Developing probability tables and regressions based on analysis of statistical data and other pertinent information

  • Research and analyze the impact from legislative changes

  • Analyze and evaluate required premium rates

  • Assess cash reserves and liabilities enable payment of future benefits

  • Analyze various data reports, identify trends and gaps and recommend actionDetermine the equitable basis for distributing money for insurance benefits

  • Create and update actuarial reports

  • Participate in merger and acquisition analysis




  • Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all policies and standards



Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience. 2+ years of actuarial experience.



License/Certification:

Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA)



Pay Range: $87,700.00 - $157,800.00 per year
