ServiceNow is seeking an Associate Applications Development Engineer for the Industry Vertical Engineering team in Santa Clara. You will work on industry-specific AI-native software, contributing from UI to back-end services while learning full-stack development and AI-assisted engineering.
You will start with guided bug fixes, simple features, and tests, collaborating with senior engineers to understand requirements and ensure code quality, security, and maintainability.
It all started when engineer Fred Luddy wrote code that automated a tedious task for his coworker, Phyllis. She cried tears of joy. That moment inspired Fred to build a company that could do that for everyone—freeing people from busywork so they could focus on meaningful work. Today, ServiceNow is the AI control tower for business reinvention. Our ServiceNow AI platform brings together any AI, any data, and any workflow— helping 85% of the Fortune 500® work smarter, faster, and better. We're building an AI-native culture where technology and talent are unstoppable together. And we're just getting started.
Join us to put AI to work for people.
We are the Industry Vertical Engineering team at ServiceNow. We design and build specialized software solutions tailored to the unique workflows, data models, and compliance needs of specific sectors, including high-tech, telecommunications, healthcare, financial services, and manufacturing.
We are building the next generation of industry-specific enterprise applications, and increasingly these applications are AI-native: their core behavior is model-driven rather than explicitly authored. They interpret user intent, reason over context, invoke tools, and act on the user's behalf, all while respecting the complex business workflows and specialized data models of the industries we serve.
As an Associate Applications Development Engineer, you will complete well-scoped, clearly-defined tasks under close guidance from senior engineers. You will contribute to production software across the full application stack — from user-facing interfaces to back-end services and APIs — while building foundational skills in full-stack development, code quality, and AI-assisted engineering.
What you get to do in this role:
To be successful in this role you have:
0–2 years of professional software engineering experience, or a strong academic background with relevant internship or project work.
Foundational knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming; beginning-level proficiency in at least one modern language and framework.
Basic familiarity with version control (Git), cloud application concepts, and software quality assurance practices including unit testing.
Curiosity about AI-native application development — how agents work, how prompts are engineered, and how non-deterministic systems are tested — with a genuine desire to grow in this area.
Ability to follow established team conventions, raise blockers promptly, and work within a structured, guided engineering environment
Clear written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative, learning-first mindset.
