Job summary

Doddridge County High School in West Union, WV invites applications for an Assistant Wrestling Coach for the 2026-2027 season. The role reports to the Athletic Director/Principal and requires WV certification or coaching authorization, strong communication, and the ability to lead students and staff in a positive athletic program.

The position begins in November 2026 as part of the coaching season. Prior coaching experience and a collaborative approach with parents and the school community are

Qualifications

• Certified as a teacher by the West Virginia Board of Education or holds a coaching authorization issued through the WV Office of Certification
• Exhibit knowledge of the assigned sport and duties of an assistant coach
• Specialized training in the area of the assigned sport
• Good evaluations and/or recommendations from professional associates, employers
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, school personnel, and parents
• Ability to work cooperatively with students, staff, parents and community

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage the athletic program as directed by the head coach
• Foster a climate conducive to learning and good sportsmanship
• Establish and maintain proper record keeping systems as directed by the head coach
• Provide good leadership in academic and extracurricular programs
• Promote and maintain positive student, coach, administrator, parent, and community relations
• Follow the rules, regulations, and timelines scheduled for the sport as outlined by WVSSAC
• Practice positive public relations by communicating with parents, students, and the educational community
• Maintain professional work habits
• Continually upgrade coaching skills
• Perform other job related duties as assigned by the head coach, athletic director, assistant principal, or principal
• Responsible for students, facility, and equipment
• Manage budget
• Follow purchasing procedures
• Implement fundamental sports skills and sports management systems
• Organizes strategies for teaching sports skills and sports management systems

ASSISTANT COACH QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

• Certified as a teacher by the West Virginia Board of Education or holds a coaching authorization issued through the West Virginia Office of Certification, Licensure and Professional Preparation andby the State Superintendent of Schools.
• Exhibit knowledge of the assigned sport, as well as of the duties and responsibilities of an assistant coach and the ability to perform these duties.
• Specialized training in the area of the assigned.
• Good evaluations and/or recommendations from professional associates, employers.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, school personnel, and parents.
• Ability to work cooperatively with students, staff, parents and community.

REPORTS TO: Athletic Director and/or Principal

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The assistantwrestling coach shall adhere to the principles and philosophy of thehighschool interscholastic athletic program and apply all applicable rules and regulations of WVSSAC.
