Job summary

RRD in Minnesota is seeking an Assistant Press Operator for a fixed 12-hour night shift (7:00 PM–7:00 AM). The schedule is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and every other Thursday, with a $3/hr night shift differential.

You will assist Press Operators with press make-ready, operation, and maintenance of sheet-fed or web offset presses, including setup, color and register adjustments, and basic maintenance tasks to meet quality specifications.

Qualifications

• Must read and follow job specs to determine materials.
• Able to operate equipment safely to produce quality product.
• Able to use a micrometer to mount and align the plate.
• Able to adjust feeder and guides and the timing of the head stops.
• Experience with routine maintenance and minor repairs under supervision.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum 2 years general knowledge of offset presswork procedures and materials.

Responsibilities

• Assist Press Operator with press make ready and production run.
• Install plates and blankets on press cylinders.
• Adjust feeder, delivery mechanisms, suction grippers, guides, feed wheels and timing.
• Wash blankets and clean ink rollers and ink fountains.
• Make color or register corrections prior to production run.

Job Description

• This position is for a 12-hour fixed front night shift (7:00PM to 7:00AM). Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and every other Thursday
• This position is eligible for a $3/hr night shift differential

The Assistant Press Operator will assist Press Operators with press make ready, operating, and maintaining sheet-fed or web offset printing press.

This includes:

• Inserting packing sheets on plate cylinder to build up plate to printing height, fastening reinforcing bars to offset blankets, and installing plates and blankets on press cylinders, using hand tools and power tools, to achieve pressure required for printing
• Adjusts press machine parts, such as feeder and delivery mechanisms, suction grippers, guides, feed wheels, jogging devices, tapes, and cams, using hand tools
• Assist in removing and replacing worn rollers and adjusting pressure between rollers of press, using hand tools
• Wash blankets and cleans ink and ink distributing rollers and ink fountains, using ink solvent and cleaning mechanism on press
• Assist Press Operator by making necessary color or register corrections and/or press adjustments prior to production run to meet and maintain the quality specifications of the work

Qualifications

• Ability to read and follow job specifications to determine press set-up materials needed to run the job successfully
• Skill to follow instructions to operate equipment safely and produce the desired product
• Ability to use micrometer to mount and align the printing plate correctly
• Ability to make adjustments to feeder and feed board (e.g., ability to adjust suctions and blast, front and side guides and the timing of the head stops)
• Skill in performing routine operational maintenance and minor repairs to equipment under guidance of senior level Press Operators
• High School Diploma or GED required
• Requires minimum 2 years general knowledge of offset presswork procedures and materials

Additional Information

The pay range for this role at the noted location is $20.39 to $31.03 per hour. The actual rate of pay offered may vary based upon, but not limited to: education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, shift, and location. In addition to base salary, depending on the role, the total compensation package may also include overtime, shift differential, call-in, and stand-by pay.
