Assistant Vice President for Student Support Services

Job Summary

The Assistant Vice President for Student Support Services oversees areas within the Division of Student Life that support student success through accessibility and opportunity, compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, and dedicated support for unique populations of students and their families. Reporting to the Vice President for Student Life, the position directly oversees Student Disabilities Services, Military and Veteran Support Services, family outreach programs, and strategic divisional initiatives. The Assistant Vice President serves as the College’s Student Services ADA compliance officer (section 504 coordinator) and supervises the College’s Veterans Affairs certifying official. As part of the Division of Student Life’s leadership team, the position works with multiple divisional departments to implement family outreach programs and fundraising and grant opportunities. Through their work, the leader identifies and removes barriers for student success, promoting inclusive design, reasonable accommodations, and assessing for effectiveness. The Assistant Vice President demonstrates cultural awareness and competence and successfully works in an intentionally diverse student environment.

Leadership and Administrative Management

• Supervise and provide leadership and strategic vision for Students Disabilities Services and Military and Veteran Support Services.
• Promote advocacy of and coordination of services supporting equitable access and experiences for students with disabilities, military and veteran-affiliated students, and the success and retention of all students.
• Coordinate the College’s family program outreach programs including communication and major family events such as family weekend and family orientation programs.
• Assist in the development and implementation of standards and policies impacting students’ abilities for equitable and successful access to the College.
• Provide strategic leadership around external funding opportunities for the Student Life Department, including grants and fundraising opportunities.
• Serves as an advocate and liaison to faculty and staff in education, advocacy, and collaboration around Student Disabilities Services and Military and Veteran Support Services.
• Provides institutional leadership to campus by serving as the College’s Student Services ADA compliance officer (section 504 coordinator).

Program Development and Management

• Initiates and coordinates program assessment, policy development, and evaluation for all managed areas.
• Synchronizes the administration and management of funding for areas of oversight, including internal and external funding for Student Disabilities Services and Military and Veteran Support Services, including associated endowments.
• Support areas of oversight by ensuring successful implementation of related programs, including but not limited to, PREP program, Veterans programs, family weekend, and the neurodiverse graduate celebration.
• Oversees assurance of service delivery components including documentation record‑keeping and updated policies and protocols.
• Regularly assesses and evaluates areas of oversight; provides annual reports and departmental program reviews; adjusts and updates as needed based on changing laws and compliance and student needs.
• Assist in College’s Leave of Absence document verification process and system.
• Provide data and reporting and annual assessment for areas of oversight.
• Oversees, evaluates, and reviews processes, including appeals, of accommodations and appropriate implementation of law and policies.

Campus-Wide Outreach and Collaboration

• Oversee process for student eligibility and registration for services in accordance with federal and state regulations and College policies to establish appropriate services for reasonable accommodation requests; specifically, oversees partnerships with academic affairs and campus housing to ensure smooth and equitable practices.
• Represent division and areas of oversight in presentations and outreach to students, families, and other stakeholders, including admitted student events, new student programs, workshops, and other campus events.
• Lead departmental efforts to raise awareness and educate the campus community on accessibility and disability issues and military and veteran affiliated student experiences.
• Provide technical interpretation, consultation, advice, and training to community on topics related to areas of oversight and family support.
• Engage campus constituents with ways in which to support and involve families of students; coordinate and implement family programs including family weekend; partner with Advancement and Alumni offices to maximize engagement with families.
• Support campus faculty, staff, and students in practicing developmental and strengths-based student development through personal and professional training and development.
• Represent Student Life through engagement in campus activities, committees, working groups, and initiatives.

Divisional Leadership

• Provide leadership on family programs and support of students, including spearheading communication methods, campus programming, and opportunities for engagement.
• Establish a guiding committee to assist in implementation of family support strategy.
• Assist divisional departments in exploration of revenue and funding opportunities such as grants, foundational support, and donations, including annual giving days.
• Assist in continued growth of endowments and financial areas of support for areas of oversight.
• Remain current and lead divisional efforts in being up to date on accessibility, equity, and military-affiliated issues and initiatives.
• Partner with Advancement Office on leading efforts for fundraising, with a particular emphasis on family support.
• Represent Student Life Department on campus-wide initiatives and committees.

Education

Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Educational Leadership, Public Administration, Social Work, Disability Studies, or related field required.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in higher education, student affairs, accessibility services, disability services, compliance, student support services or related field required.
