Job summary

Aon is seeking an Assistant Vice President/Broker II in the Financial Services Group in Chicago, IL. This role focuses on developing strategic risk management solutions for large, global clients and overseeing insurance program design, marketing, and service management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent years of proven experience.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of financial lines insurance brokerage and/or underwriting experience with a concentration on Directors & Officers Liability, Employment Practices, Fiduciary, Crime and Special Risk.

Responsibilities

  • Assess client needs, design solutions and negotiate with insurance carriers to obtain coverage that is in a client’s best interests.
  • Develop and lead client relationships, account strategies and insurance marketing activities for book of business; act as primary negotiator for effective programs.
  • Collaborate with Team Leaders, Producers, Account Executives and other client-facing members to understand and deliver on client needs.
  • Identify and analyze client exposures; work with junior associates to develop risk treatment and placement strategies.
  • Develop and execute, with the client, an agreed structure and strategy to obtain coverage.
  • Provide guidance on market trends, pricing practices and underwriting policies; help develop department policies.
  • Support and mentor junior staff; contribute to growth of personal book of business and team development.

Assistant Vice President/Broker II – Financial Services Group

This Broker role is responsible for developing and implementing strategic risk management solutions for large, global clients. This includes the design, marketing and service management of insurance programs in numerous industry sectors. This individual should have validated peer market relationships and emerging senior market relationships.

What the day will look like
  • Responsible for assessing client needs, designing solutions and negotiating with insurance carriers to obtain coverage that is in a client’s best interests.
  • Professional who develops and leads client relationships, account strategies and insurance marketing activities for book of business. Acts as the primary negotiator in obtaining the most effective insurance programs to address client needs.
  • Works closely with Team Leaders, Producers, Account Executives and other client facing team members to understand and deliver on client’s needs.
  • Identifies and analyzes client exposures while regularly collaborating with junior associates to develop effective client risk treatment and placement strategies.
  • Obtains the most appropriate program coverage based upon client objectives by developing and executing, in conjunction with the client, an agreed upon structure and strategy.
  • Serves as a source of information concerning market trends, pricing practices and other underwriting policies. May participate in development of department policies and procedures and implements them in assigned areas.
  • Provides guidance to more junior staff
  • Advises the overall development and growth of personal book of business and assists in the development of the team members. Capable of working on sophisticated accounts with autonomy. AVP’s and New VP’s play a supporting role in larger, more sophisticated accounts. Support team in the solicitation and servicing of clients and the broking of their insurance programs. Advising, placing and servicing mid-size accounts with minimal direct supervision for own portfolio of clients. Expert comparison and analysis of insurance policies and determination of needed enhancements.

The broker will be instrumental in the analysis of clients’ exposures to identify and mitigate risk as well as responsible for the coordination of the placement and day-to-day activities on accounts.

Skills and experience that will lead to success
  • Attention to detail, ability to multi-task, exceptional organizational skills, ability to make and communicate difficult decisions.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of financial lines insurance brokerage and/or underwriting experience with a concentration on Directors & Officers Liability, Employment Practices, Fiduciary, Crime and Special Risk.
  • Solid understanding of carrier underwriting practices & processes.
  • Proven leadership skills in working with teams and experience collaborating with clients to successfully exceed client expectations.
  • Confirmed client-facing skills including effective presentations & communications.
  • Validated organization and ability to work with others.
  • Experience in resource deployment and utilization management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively at various levels.
  • Effectively operates in a fast-paced driven environment that requires managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Sales experience preferred and finance background a plus.
  • Must maintain appropriate broker’s license.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products.

Education: Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent years of proven experience.

Pay Transparency Laws:

The salary range for this position (intended for U.S. applicants) is $120,000 - $165,000 annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant’s education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant’s geographic location.

The salary range reflected is based on a primary work location of Illinois. The actual salary may vary for applicants in a different geographic location.

This position is eligible to participate in one of Aon’s annual incentive plans to receive an annual discretionary bonus in addition to base salary. The amount of any bonus varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan.
