About This Opportunity

The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Bankruptcy Operations leads strategic leadership, operational management, regulatory compliance, and performance oversight of mortgage servicing bankruptcy functions across Chapter 7, 11, 12, and 13 portfolios. The role administers case operations, proof of claim filing, payment monitoring, plan review, attorney oversight, litigation support, discharge processing, and investor reporting, acting as primary liaison with Servicing, Legal, Compliance, Foreclosure, Loss Mitigation, and external counsel to ensure compliance and borrower protections.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership – develop and execute enterprise bankruptcy servicing strategy, establish goals, metrics, drive operational excellence, assess portfolio impacts, present executive reports on performance, risks, and compliance, support default servicing/portfolio risk initiatives.
  • Bankruptcy Operations Management – oversee administration of Chapter 7, 11, 12, 13 cases; active monitoring, payment processing, plan review, objection processes, post‑petition monitoring, discharge processing, reaffirmation agreements, motion practice coordination, litigation support.
  • Operational Responsibilities – ensure timely review and boarding of new filings, oversee Proofs of Claim, manage Chapter 13 plan review, monitor plan performance and payments, ensure court deadlines and filing requirements, oversee attorney referral and vendor activities, manage escalated client, attorney, trustee and court inquiries.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Legal Oversight – ensure adherence to U.S. Bankruptcy Code, Federal Bankruptcy Rules, CFPB, RESPA, FDCPA, FCRA, SCRA, FHA, VA, USDA, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Ginnie Mae, and state laws; partner with Legal/Compliance on regulatory changes, support examinations, audit responses, corrective action.
  • Attorney & Vendor Management – manage attorney networks, monitor performance metrics, review invoices and expenses, conduct vendor reviews, enforce referral procedures, coordinate litigation strategy with internal/external counsel.
  • Investor & Agency Management – oversee compliance for FHA, VA, USDA, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Ginnie Mae, portfolio and private investor loans; monitor investor‑specific requirements, timely reporting, claim filing, audits, and loss mitigation coordination.
  • Risk Management & Quality Control – establish quality assurance programs, monitor risk indicators, analyze filing deficiencies, review root causes and corrective actions, ensure internal controls, reduce legal/operational exposure.
  • Bankruptcy Financial Management – monitor portfolio performance, analyze cure rates, track advances/recoveries, review fee expenditures, support forecasting, budgeting, provide executive reporting on risk exposure.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration – partner with Legal, Compliance, Loss Mitigation, Foreclosure, Collections, Customer Service, Investor Reporting, Finance, Internal Audit, Risk Management, Subservicers on bankruptcy‑to‑loss mitigation transitions, foreclosure holds, servicing transfers, regulatory initiatives.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities – manage bankruptcy managers, supervisors, team leads, analysts; oversee hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, employee development, succession planning, corrective actions, workforce planning.
Location and Schedule

This full‑time position is office‑based in Troy, MI, with standard hours Monday‑Friday, 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Education – Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Legal Studies or related field; advanced degree or paralegal/legal background preferred.
  • Experience – Minimum 5 years mortgage servicing experience; 3 years leadership managing bankruptcy operations; extensive knowledge of Chapter 7/13 administration, proof of claim processes, litigation support, investor requirements, payment processing, court filing procedures; managing attorney networks and legal vendors; supporting regulatory examinations and audits.
