Summary

Heritage High School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our cheerleading program as an Assistant Varsity Cheer Coach for the upcoming season. The ideal candidate will support the head coach in developing a competitive cheerleading team, fostering teamwork, discipline, and school spirit among student-athletes. This seasonal position requires a commitment to the growth and success of the cheer program, as well as the ability to inspire and motivate young athletes.

Responsibilities

• Assist the head coach in planning and conducting daily practices, ensuring a safe and productive environment for all participants.
• Help develop and implement cheer routines, stunts, and choreography for competitions and performances.
• Support the head coach in organizing and executing team events, including fundraisers, community service, and team bonding activities.
• Monitor the academic progress and well-being of team members, promoting a balance between athletics and academics.
• Collaborate with the head coach to maintain open communication with athletes, parents, and school administration.
• Attend all practices, games, and competitions, providing guidance and support to athletes during events.
• Assist in the evaluation of athletes’ performance and provide constructive feedback for improvement.
• Promote a positive team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, respect, and dedication.
• Ensure compliance with all school and district policies, as well as state and national cheerleading regulations.

Requirements

• Previous experience in cheerleading, coaching, or a related field is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of cheerleading techniques, routines, and safety practices.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire young athletes.
• Ability to work collaboratively with coaching staff, athletes, and parents.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
• First Aid and CPR certification is a plus; willingness to obtain certifications if not currently held.
• Must pass a background check and adhere to all school policies and procedures.
• Availability to work evenings and weekends during the cheer season.
• A passion for cheerleading and a commitment to promoting a positive and inclusive team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience coaching MHSAA Competitive Cheer
• Experience coaching cheer athletes at the high school level.

Compensation

Salary stipend per STEA Contract
