Lyons USD 405 is seeking an Assistant Coach for High School and Middle School to help train students in fundamentals, strategies, and sportsmanship, while upholding district policies and KSHSAA rules.
You will work under the Head Coach, supervise practices, model professional conduct, coordinate equipment, and communicate with parents and administration to ensure a safe, educational, and competitive program.
Job Title: Assistant Coach – High School and Middle School
Purpose: To assist the head coach in instructing students in the fundamental skills, strategy and training necessary for them to realize a degree individual and team success. At the same time, the student shall receive instructions that will lead to the formation of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline and self-confidence. Community/parent pressure for winning is taxing but must not over-ride the objectives of good sportsmanship and good mental health.

Qualifications:
Teaching certificate preferred
Knowledge of the fundamentals of the sport/activity
Knowledge of KSHSAA rules and regulations
Knowledge of USD 405 policies and expectations
Essential Functions:
Maintain a working relationship with other coaches
Be a role model for students and athletes at all times
Maintain a professional relationship with the Head Coach, Administration and Parents.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials, maximum of 60 pounds.
Requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, and reaching.
Requires climbing and balancing
Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
Must occasionally work in noisy and crowded environments, with numerous interruptions.
General responsibilities:
Supervise students during scheduled practices and performances
Stay informed on new techniques or concepts as it pertains to the assigned area of
responsibility
Assist the Head Coach to Inventory and maintain equipment and uniforms.
Help with issuing equipment and checking equipment in.
Be responsible for coaching and modeling good sportsmanship and citizenship as defined by KSHSAA.
Provide a safe, educational, competitive environment for both practices and performances.
Communicate effectively with the school office, media and parents.
Accept the leadership responsibilities demanded of the position of an assistant coach.
Maintain the physical well being of the students in all areas pertaining to the designated area of responsibility.
Any other responsibility that falls within the domain of the assigned area and not involving maintenance of the facilities, fund raising, administration of the event, or procuring and maintaining vehicles.
