Role Description - THROWS COACH - SHOT PUT - DISCUS

The Assistant Throws Track and Field Coach will support the head coach in planning, organizing, and conducting daily track and field practices and workouts for student-athletes. This full-time, on-site role is located at Monrovia High School, CA and involves instructing athletes in event-specific techniques, conditioning, and competition strategies while promoting safety and sportsmanship. The coach will help develop training plans, monitor athlete progress, and assist with meet preparation, including equipment setup and event coordination. Responsibilities include maintaining clear communication with athletes, parents, and school staff, ensuring compliance with school and league policies, and supporting academic and personal development for student-athletes. The role may also include participation in coaches’ meetings, oversight of off-season training, and collaboration on talent identification and program improvement.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge and/or experience in the throws events


• Strong knowledge of Track and Field events and rules, with experience participating in or coaching track and field.


• Coaching and Training skills, including the ability to develop structured practice plans, teach technique, and motivate student-athletes.


• Communication skills, including clear verbal and written communication, active listening, and the ability to work effectively with diverse students, families, and staff.


• Athletic Training and conditioning experience, with an understanding of injury prevention, basic first aid, and safe training practices.


• Ability to serve as a positive role model, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and respect for all participants.


• Experience working with high school students or in an educational setting is preferred.


• Knowledge of CIF or relevant high school athletic regulations is beneficial.


• High school diploma required; college coursework or a degree in kinesiology, physical education, or a related field is an asset.


• Availability for after-school practices, weekend meets, and seasonal commitments as required by the program.


• Background check and any required coaching certifications as mandated by the school district or state regulations.
