Job summary

The Bath Area Family YMCA is seeking an Assistant Toddler Teacher for Brunswick ELC in Brunswick, ME. The role supports the Enrichment Program, supervising toddler-age children and fostering positive relationships with parents and caregivers.

Responsibilities include assisting with lesson plans, maintaining safety, and upholding YMCA standards. Requirements include experience with young children, CPR/First Aid, and a background check; MRTQ level 4 preferred, plus a commitment to early childhood

Qualifications

• MRTQ level 4 preferred and related childcare experience.
• At least 18 years old and able to pass a background check.
• CPR, first aid, AED certifications and child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position supports the work of the Y, as a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

The Assistant Toddler Teacher provides direct supervision to a group of children in the Enrichment Program, creating positive, nurturing relationships with children while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers. The role promotes and supports the potential of all children in the program and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall preschool experience.

Successful candidates will demonstrate experience working with young children, familiarity with the State of Maine Early Childhood Learning Guidelines, Creative Curriculum and NAEYC Accreditation Standards, current CPR/First Aid certification, excellent oral and written communication skills, and a commitment to the field of early care and education.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Supports Lead Teacher and works as a team to supervise a group of toddler age children.
• Assists with lesson plan implementation and program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA values.
• Adheres to program standards, including safety and cleanliness standards.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings.
• Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
• Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff, modeling relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.

QUALIFICATIONS

• MRTQ level 4 preferred.
• Previous experience working with children, preferably in a childcare setting.
• At least 18 years of age.
• State of Maine childcare provider background check.
• CPR, first aid, AED certifications and child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
