Job summary

Divert Inc. in Longview, WA is hiring an Assistant Technician to support the food analysis and recovery process. You will perform prep, cleaning, light maintenance and related tasks while following safety procedures.

The role reports to Plant Supervisors and involves handling unsold food, operating equipment such as pressure washers and forklifts, and participating in shift handoffs and trainings. The position requires willingness to work nights.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required or preferred.
  • Experience in manufacturing/production environment is beneficial.
  • Willingness to work nights and overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, breakdown, clean, and stack organic material bins.
  • Wear PPE and operate equipment as assigned (e.g., sweeper, power washers).
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment and escalate concerns.
  • Handle forklift duties including unloading trucks and processing waste.
  • Participate in shift handoffs, trainings, and other tasks as assigned.

What you'll do:

Reporting to the Plant Supervisors, Divert’s Assistant Technicians play a pivotal role in the food analysis and recovery process as they execute on various prep, cleaning, light maintenance and other activities.

Divert’s Longview, WA facility receives unsold food from clients, analyzes the content, separates the packaging from the organics that can then be digested, ultimately processing the mixed liquor through our anaerobic digestion tank. The end result is renewable natural gas (RNG) tied into a local NG pipeline.

Shift Available:
  • Nights, 2/2/3, 6pm to 6:30am

This position is a safety-sensitive position and requires a clear mind and diligence. The employee has the responsibility for his/her safety as well as the safety of others.

Responsibilities
  • Executes on various tasks including the inspection, breakdown, cleaning, and stacking of organic material bins
  • Wear proper PPE for duties assigned.
  • Operating other equipment as assigned ie sweeper, power washers, HMI interfaces.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment and escalates concerns to Supervisor or Managers in real time
  • Forklift duties include unloading trucks and processing food waste.
  • Assist with basic PM tasks and other operational activities as assigned
  • Participation in all shift handoff meetings, scheduled trainings, and other meeting as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential functions for this position and meet the physical requirements needed to perform them, including but not limited to frequently require the ability to drive a forklift, sit; hear or talk: use close vision; use hands to grasp, handle or feel objects; and type and manipulate controls. Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals with disabilities. While performing the essential functions of this job, the associate:

  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, carry up to 50 lbs frequently
  • Must be able to bend, stand, walk, sit, kneel frequently
  • Is comfortable operating equipment and repetitive tasks throughout their shift
  • Is able to handle potential changes in temperature on site, humidity and wetness in working areas
What we're looking for:
  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience preferred
  • Experience working in a manufacturing/production environment preferred
  • 6-12 months maintenance, industrial maintenance, or auto mechanic experience preferred
  • Experience operating pressure washers and forklifts preferred
  • Basic computer proficiency and mathematical skills
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication in English (preferred)
  • Willing to work overtime
