Job summary

Centric Brands is seeking a Kids Assistant Technical Designer to support the Technical Design team in developing children’s apparel that meets fit, safety, quality, and brand standards.

You will assist with fit sessions, technical documentation, and sample management, ensuring products align with age-specific sizing, comfort, and durability requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Technical Design, or related field preferred.
  • 0–2 years of experience (internships or coursework acceptable).
  • Exposure to kids’ apparel or product development is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of garment construction and fit.
  • Familiarity with kids sizing and growth allowances (preferred).
  • Knowledge of patternmaking fundamentals (a plus).
  • Adobe Illustrator
  • Microsoft Excel
  • PLM systems (e.g., FlexPLM, Centric) preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and organization
  • Good communication and follow-up skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing samples, specs, and materials for kids’ fit sessions.
  • Take detailed fit notes including movement, comfort, and growth considerations.
  • Support evaluation of garment fit, balance, and construction with senior guidance.
  • Maintain consistency across kids size ranges (infant to girls).
  • Create and update development package with POMs, sizing, and grading.
  • Maintain measurement specs and tolerances; update fit standards.
  • Track development samples (proto, fit, PP); manage inventory.
  • Coordinate with vendors and factories on fit comments and construction details.
  • Collaborate with Design and Product Development on cost feasibility and safety standards.
  • Ensure child safety compliance (CPSIA) and proper labeling.

Specific Responsibilities Would Include

The Kids Assistant Technical Designer supports the Technical Design team in developing children’s apparel that meets fit, safety, quality, and brand standards. This role assists with fit sessions, technical documentation, and sample management, ensuring products align with age-specific sizing, comfort, and durability requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Fit & Garment Development

  • Assist in preparing samples, specs, and materials for kids’ fit sessions
  • Take detailed fit notes, including movement, comfort, and growth considerations
  • Support evaluation of garment fit, balance, and construction with guidance from senior team members
  • Help maintain consistency across kids size ranges (infant, toddler, boys, girls)

Technical Documentation

  • Assist in creating and updating development package, including:
    • Points of Measure (POMs)
    • Age-appropriate sizing and grading
    • Construction and trim details
  • Maintain accurate measurement specs and tolerances
  • Support updates to fit standards and block libraries

Sample & Process Management

  • Track development samples (proto, fit, PP samples)
  • Organize and maintain sample inventory
  • Ensure samples are ready for fit sessions and cross-functional meetings
  • Follow up on sample status and deadlines

Vendor Communication

  • Support communication with global vendors and factories
  • Help send fit comments, measurement updates, and construction details
  • Ensure clarity around kids-specific needs such as durability, safety trims, and labeling

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Design to ensure garments meet aesthetic and functional expectations
  • Support Product Development with cost and feasibility considerations
  • Coordinate with QA teams to meet safety and compliance standards

Kids-Specific Compliance & Safety

  • Assist in ensuring garments meet child safety regulations (e.g., CPSIA guidelines)
  • Support reviews of trims, embellishments, and closures for safety risks
  • Help ensure proper labeling and age grading standards
Our Best Fit Candidate Would Have

Salary Range: $60,000 - $65,000

Our job postings include an annual base salary range at the time of employment. The stated base salary range represents our good faith estimate as to what candidates are likely to expect, and we tailor our offers within the range based on several factors, including the selected candidate's educational and professional experience, industry knowledge, location, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the selection process. Base salary is a part of a total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, annual bonus and other Centric Brands sponsored benefit programs.
