Assistant Teaching Professor - Biomedical Engineering

The Nancy E. and Peter C. Meinig School of Biomedical Engineering at Cornell University has a full-time position for an Assistant Teaching Professor to teach and develop undergraduate and master’s level biomedical engineering courses. Teaching Professors are non-tenure track teaching faculty members who are hired on multi-year appointments with the expectation of renewal and promotion, with a 9-month service period plus summer opportunities. This position has an anticipated start date of Fall 2027. Teaching Professors in the Meinig School teach two 3-credit hour courses per semester and participate in faculty meetings, curricular review committees, and strategic planning.

The Meinig School is conducting two parallel faculty searches in biomedical engineering education. This Teaching Professor position is intended for educators who will provide leadership in undergraduate education through excellence and innovation in teaching, curriculum development, and student mentoring and advising; candidates will be evaluated primarily on the strength and potential of their teaching, educational leadership, and contributions to the biomedical engineering curriculum. In contrast, the school’s tenure-track discipline-based engineering education research (DBER) position is intended for scholars who will establish an independent, nationally recognized education research program, including mentoring Ph.D. students and postdoctoral scholars and advancing the field through innovative scholarship, external funding, and national leadership; candidates for that position will be evaluated on the strength and potential of their DBER scholarship.

A Ph.D. in bioengineering/biomedical engineering or closely related field is preferred with a record of outstanding teaching experience beyond the graduate teaching assistant level. Teaching experience aligned with one or more concentration areas within the biomedical engineering curriculum is expected, including but not limited to biomechanics, biomaterials, biomedical imaging, and cellular systems and computational biology.

Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in Machine Learning and/or Artificial Intelligence as applied to biomedical engineering. A strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and advising is essential. Teaching responsibilities will include participation in and development of both undergraduate and masters courses, and strong engagement in the biomedical engineering curriculum. Starting salary and title will depend upon the level of experience of the candidate.

The Meinig School of Biomedical Engineering is located in the College of Duffield Engineering on Cornell’s main campus in Ithaca, New York.
