Position Title:

Assistant Teaching Professor - APRN Core

About the Role:

The Assistant Teaching Professor is responsible for coordinating,leading, and teaching courses in the MSN program.

The MSN Faculty upholds academic integrity, follows standards ofpractice, and collaborates with the all MSN and SON faculty toensure curriculum alignment with CCNE Essentials and the nationalstandards applicable to the assigned track.

The role supports graduate preparation for national certificationeligibility in the APRN, NEL, or NED track, fosters programeffectiveness, and promotes a student-centered, high-qualitylearning environment.

Organizational Relationship:

• Workload assigned by the Associate Director/MSN ProgramDirector and SON Director
• Evaluated annually by the Associate School Director and/or SONDirector and with input from peer faculty
• Maintain regular, proactive communication with MSN Faculty andProgram Director regarding course operations, student concerns, andany emerging issues, ensuring alignment with program expectationsand timely resolution.

Program Leadership:

• Actively engage in SON, MSN program, course, and universitymeetings, as designated by the SON Director and AssociateDirector/MSN Program director to support shared governance andprogram effectiveness.
• Collaborate regularly with other MSN Faculty to address MSNcurriculum, course content, grading practices, student concerns,and faculty or university-related matters. Escalate unresolvedissues to the MSN Program Director following appropriatecommunication pathways.
• Contribute to program success through participation inactivities related to student admission, progression, andorientation, as well as curriculum review and enhancement forstudents enrolled in or applying to the MSN program.
• Ensure alignment with CCNE Standards, the national competenciesapplicable to the assigned track (NONPF for APRN; AONL and NLN forNEL and NED), and other professional standards asappropriate.

Faculty Leadership:

• Maintain an active presence and engagement throughout the MSNprogram by monitoring responsiveness, grading practices, andinteractions with students.
• Collaboratively review and discuss student assignmentsreceiving a grade of 80% or below to ensure timely academic supportand consistency in evaluation.
• Plan, teach, manage, and evaluate lectures and courseactivities while ensuring instructional excellence and innovationin content delivery.
• Review course materials, including readings, textbooks, andlearning resources, to ensure alignment with current evidence-basedpractice, CCNE Standards, the national competencies applicable tothe assigned track (NONPF for APRN; AONL and NLN for NEL and NED),and other professional standards as appropriate and communicate anynecessary updates to the applicable MSN Track Coordinator(s) tomaintain curricular relevance and accuracy.
• Collaborates closely with the MSN Program Director/AssociateDirector and MSN faculty to maintain the quality of courses andoverall program effectiveness while fostering an enriching learningexperience for students.

Other duties include:

• Be accessible and available to students, supervisor, staff andcolleagues during NKU operation hours (8:00 am – 4:30 pmEST).
• Serve on SON and program committees as assigned and attend SON,program, and other meetings in person or virtually; be an activeparticipate in SON, program, and university needs.

Education

Doctoral degree in Nursing or related field required. For APRNtrack positions, an Advanced Practice Certification in a nursepractitioner specialty (FNP, AGACNP, PMHNP). For NEL and NED trackpositions, MSN in nursing with graduate preparation in nursingleadership/administration or nursing education, respectively

Qualifications:

• Minimum of two years of clinical nursing practicerequired.
• Must possess an active and unencumbered registered nursing (RN)license in State of residence and, for APRN track positions, anadvanced practice license
• For APRN track positions, at least five years of full-time,past and current direct patient care as an APRN in the designatedspecialty area.
• For NEL and NED track positions, comparable full-timeprofessional experience in nursing leadership/administration ornursing education, as applicable
• Previous graduate- level teaching required
• Previous online teaching experience required
• Experience or expertise with course content
• Pass pre-employment criminal background check as mandated bystate law

Professional Expectations:

• Maintain active unencumbered RN licensure and, for APRN trackpositions, APRN certification/licensure; NEL and NED facultymaintain any certifications relevant to their track
• Maintain current knowledge of professional discipline andeducational methodologies through continuing professionaldevelopment
• For APRN track positions, maintain part-time clinical practiceas needed to maintain APRN certification/licensure; ensure clinicalpractice (max release is one day weekly) does not interfere withfaculty duties
• Maintain current knowledge of program policies, procedures, andstudent progress
• Adhere to faculty professional standards as delineated in theNKU Faculty Handbook
• Utilize nku.edu email for ALL course communications – studentsare required to do the same
• Teach and precept as needed to meet program needs

Required Training:

• Completes ‘Best Practices for Online Teaching’ Canvas course asassigned
• Completes required Faculty Development courses annually
• Complete Clinical systems training currently used in program(i.e., Medatrax)
