Job summary

Job description

Job Summary

Assistant Teacher is responsible for the care, supervision, and safety of classroom children. Tasks include planning and implementing age-appropriate curriculum, maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly classroom and playground. The teacher must demonstrate compassion and understanding of the needs of children and families from all backgrounds, learning, implementing, and following all program policies and procedures. Additionally, the teacher encourages self‑esteem and independence, supports social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development, and incorporates health, safety, and nutritional education into curriculum planning. In the Head Teacher’s absence, the assistant oversees program operations.

Qualifications
  • Valid CDA with 12 credits in ECE, or an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in ECE or a related field with 12 ECE credits (preferred).
  • Enroll in a program that leads to an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in ECE or a related field with 12 ECE credits, to be completed within three years of hire.
  • Enroll in a CDA credential program and obtain 12 ECE credits within two years of hire.
  • Have access to reliable, insured transportation.
  • Hold or obtain and maintain CT child‑care first‑aid, child CPR, and medication administration certification.
  • Provide a TVCCA staff statement of good health signed by a qualified physician, physician’s assistant, or nurse practitioner, completed within twelve months before employment, and renewed every thirty‑six months thereafter.
