A community service organization is seeking an Assistant Teacher for their Little Learners program in Norwich, Connecticut. The role involves planning and implementing age-appropriate curriculum and ensuring the safety and well-being of center children. Candidates should have a degree in Early Childhood Education or be enrolled in a relevant program. Strong communication skills and compassion for children are essential. Overview

Assistant Teacher-Little Learners at TVCCA - Thames Valley Council for Community Action, Inc.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and implementing age-appropriate curriculum.
• Encourage self-esteem and independence for the social, emotional, cognitive and physical needs of each child.
• Ensure that health, safety and nutritional education is integrated into the curriculum planning.
• Care for, supervise and ensure the safety of center children; keep classroom and playground equipment clean, neat, and orderly.
• Learn, implement, and follow all program policies and procedures.
• Provide program operations in the absence of the Head Teacher.
• Demonstrate compassion for the needs of children and families from all backgrounds.

Pay and Benefits

• $19.50 Enrolled in a CDA or degree program
• $19.75 CDA and 12 ECE credits
• $20.50 Associate’s Degree in ECE or relevant field with 12 ECE credits
• $21.50 Bachelor’s Degree in ECE or relevant field with 12 ECE credits

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s OR Associate’s degree in ECE or related field OR valid CDA with required 12 OEC/ECE credits (Intro to ECE, Child Development, Health, Safety & Nutrition in ECE and Child, Family & Community), or willing to achieve them within 3 years of hire to meet licensing requirements.
• OR Enrolled in a program that will lead to an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in ECE or a related field with required 12 OEC/ECE credits (see above) to be completed within three years of the time of hire.
• OR Enrolled in a Child Development Associate credential (CDA) program and obtain the required 12 OEC/ECE credits (see above) to be completed within two years of the time of hire.
• AND Have access to reliable, insured transportation
• Provide a TVCCA Staff Statement of Good Health signed by a physician, physician’s assistant, or nurse practitioner completed within twelve (12) months before the date of employment, and every thirty-six (36) months for current staff.
• Must have or obtain and maintain CT Childcare Pediatric First-Aid, CPR, AED and medication administration certification.
• Must have or obtain within 90 days of hire the Care 4 Kids Health and Safety Training
• Have the credentials to obtain a Connecticut Head Teacher License from the Department of Public Health
• Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 50lbs
• Minimum of 18 years of age
• Be able to work 35 hours/week, 52 weeks/year.
• The TVCCA Little Learners Early Education Program requires staff to be available from 7:00AM - 5:00PM to cover center operational hours on a rotational basis.
• Continue professional development per funding source requirements.
• Strong computer skills and ability to effectively communicate with children, parents, staff and volunteers
