Job summary

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is seeking a K-3 teacher assistant to work 37.5 hours per week in a full-time capacity. Working under a teacher or principal, you will provide instructional support, reinforce learning, and help create a classroom environment that maximizes student engagement.

You will assist with small-group instruction, monitor performance, perform clerical tasks, and coordinate with teachers to align with curriculum objectives and technology resources.

Qualifications

• Completion of an Associate's Degree OR two years of higher education equivalent to 48 credit hours OR ability to pass a formal assessment (Workkey and 96 hours of in-service training) OR completion of the NC DOL Apprenticeship Program OR completion of the NC ATA Professional Development Plan

Responsibilities

• Supervises students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, gymnasiums, or on field trips.
• Enforces administration policies and rules governing students.

• Instructs and monitors students in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage.
• Observes students' performance and records relevant data to assess progress.

Job description

This is a 37.5 hour per week full-time position. Working under the supervision of a teacher or principal, K-3 teacher assistants (TA) provide additional assistance and instruction to students. They assist the teacher in achieving the standards and objectives of excellence as set by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. They work cooperatively with the principal and teacher in providing a classroom environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional programs and available curriculum and technology materials. They work individually or in small groups to reinforce instruction, monitor performance and support learning. This position also performs a variety of instructional and classroom management supports. They perform necessary clerical tasks to support teachers.
