Overview

An Assistant Teacher at The Goddard School is responsible for establishing and maintaining a safe, healthy, and nurturing learning environment. Additionally, an Assistant Teacher works collaboratively with a Lead Teacher and the entire faculty.

General Qualifications

An Assistant Teacher must meet the qualifications of their state and those set forth in the National Standards for hiring (see www.bls.gov), including the following:

  1. Ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid
  2. Ability to see and read newsprint, with or without corrective lenses
  3. Ability to speak and be understood under normal circumstances
  4. Ability to lift and carry children and other items weighing up to 50 pounds
  5. Ability to use arms, hands, legs, and feet, with or without corrective devices; this includes the ability to evacuate the building during emergencies
  6. Ability to handle crisis situations, especially where children are involved
  7. Ability to respond immediately to emergency situations
  8. Ability to change diapers and maintain a clean environment
