The Squaxin Island Child Development Center Assistant Teacher, with guidance from the lead teacher and the center administration team, assists classroom instruction and supports a nurturing environment for all children that allows for optimal social, emotional, and intellectual development.

AA OR Have an ECE initial certificate in Early Childhood, or a High School Diploma or equivalency with 2 years of experience working with young children, and be working toward ECE initial certificate and/or degree. Experience with observations, curriculum development, and assessment of young children. Must be comfortable working with children birth to five. Must be 18 years old.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of concrete variables in situations with minimal standardization. Ability to interpret a range of instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formats.

Employees will be regularly exposed to chemicals that may be present in cleaning solutions and/or arts and crafts activities. The employee will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level range in the work environment is quiet to noisy.
