Job summary

The Goddard School of Northeast Portland, OR is seeking an Assistant Teacher to support the Lead Teacher in creating engaging, age-appropriate lessons and to nurture children's growth in a safe, stimulating classroom. You will engage with children daily, promote social, emotional, cognitive and physical development, and communicate with families about progress and activities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; associate or bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education preferred.
• Experience with young children in licensed childcare or preschool setting.
• Shows empathy and compassion for young children.
• Willingness to work without close supervision.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing age-appropriate lesson plans.
• Support children’s development across social, emotional, cognitive and physical domains through engagement.
• Prepare classroom materials and maintain a safe, clean learning environment.
• Supervise children and provide individualized support to foster belonging.
• Assist in communicating with families about child progress and daily activities.
• Adhere to health, safety guidelines and licensing regulations.

Assistant Teacher Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing age-appropriate lesson plans
• Support children’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical development through active engagement and positive interactions
• Prepare classroom materials and ensure a safe, clean and inviting learning environment
• Supervise and provide individualized support to children and foster a sense of belonging
• Assist in communicating with families about their child’s progress and daily activities
• Adhere to health and safety guidelines and licensing regulations to ensure a secure environment
• Support daily care routines and tasks to promote a nurturing learning environment

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; associate or bachelor's in Early Childhood Education preferred
• Previous experience working with young children in a licensed childcare or preschool setting
• Shows empathy and compassion for young children
• Works productively without supervision
• Basic understanding of child development
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. in connection with the handling of children
• Must pass required state background checks and meet state minimum education, experience and credential requirements
